Hang in there
I have been stage 4 for three and a half years now. Three different drugs plus radiation during that time. Plenty of scans. Yep, the wait for the scan results is unnerving. Do your best to get the follow up doctor's visit schedule ASAP after the scan. That helps me a lot. There are quite a few drugs out there for kidney cancer folks and give the oncologist time to see what he/she can find which can effectively deal with your situation. A good number of stage 4 people can reach some sort of stability. I hope and pray that you'll be one of them. Hang on; being that we're seeking treatment in 2016, we have a lot of advantage over those who were seeking treatment 15 or 20 years ago. My sense is that many new doors have been opened in recent years. Also, don't be afraid to get a second opinion. The treatment we receive is a combination of art and science. Getting another viewpoint when contemplating big decisions can only be helpful. I hope that you'll find the right combination soon.

Thoughts are with you
I am confident you will find a drug that offers you the stability we all need. I personally had good luck with the immunotherapies but it doesnt work for everyone.
Hang in there! I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers
