Breast Implants
I just had a silicone implant put in my right breast four years after my mastectomy. We did not stretch the skin with an expander as I had a skin save and it was ample enough to put in a 450cc implant (about a C cup). It is wonderful to have a breast again, but I wonder what it will feel like in the future since it is…

Femara and Glucosamine
I started taking Femara a couple of weeks ago. Oncologist recommended that I also take Calcium + Vit D (have been taking this for 15 years) and Glucosamine/Chondroitin twice a day due to the possible side effects of muscle/bone aches and osteoporosis. There are so many choices for Glucosamine. Double strength, triple…

Exemestane (Aromasin)
Hi: I am going to be taking Exemestane (Aromasin) as part of a clinical trial. I had to have ovarian suppression and chose to have my ovaries removed (instead of radiation or monthly Lupron injections). I had them removed on 12-17 and have had hot flashes, which haven't been too bad, I just use an icebag. What I would like…

How to prepare for my wife's mastectomy
First of all, let me apologize for barging onto what is a women's discussion board, but I haven't yet found a men's site that I can use. My wife was diagnosed with Stage IIB breast cancer (lymph node involvement) two weeks ago and will undergo a mastectomy of one breast and removal of some lymph nodes the first of the…

A thought about depression
Recently, I have been reading about depression on this board and the possibility of it being a side effect of aromatase inhibitors. I was also wondering how many of us who are experiencing depression just completed treatment during this past year and suffered a tragedy like the loss of a loved one. I lost my dad, with whom…

Using this site
OK. I'm a ditz. How do find something specific in the Expressions Gallery? How do I send a private message. I know it says that I've been a member since June, but it's only been very recently that I've actually been coming here and I'm not sure of the etiquette and can't find the manual!

My hair is gone and it's OK
I am 19 days past my first chemo treatment and for the last two days, my hair has been falling like snow. So today I went to my beautician and had her shave my head. I had a crying fit before I went (my poor husband), but I took two friends with me--one to hold my hand and one to take pictures--and I made it just fine…

depression/Femara
Lately I have been very, very depressed. Maybe it's circumstantial: my mother died three months ago and I have had many other problems this year, but I started wondering if it could be the Femara? Has anyone had this side-effect from Femara, and if so, what did you do? I want to stay on the Femara because I believe it is…

Merry Christmas from a Survivor
Merry Christmas to all. I remember the first Christmas after I was dx'd. It was so hard for me (mentally), to get up that morning. But, for the sake of my husband and three small children (7, 4 and 3 month old), I put on a brave face and faced another uncertain day. I had just recently been dx'd, Stage IIb with 16 positive…

Hello to All my Friends here on the board.....Well, I had my surgery last Tuesday at UPMC Mercy in Pittsburgh. That hospital is one of the best I have ever been in. Everyone takes the time to answer questions. And the views at night are awesome. I met many other cancer patients, heard many stories. I have an incision from…

Lymphedema
I had l4 lymph nodes removed (6 had cancer). I was sent to a lymphedema specialist and she gave me exercises, a massage routine, and a sleeve to wear. I'm wondering what other survivors do about the possibility of lymphedema. Somehow, dealing with preventing it is a constant reminder of the cancer.

Speaking of worry....
So, a big question: how do you go on with your life with all this worry about cancer, recurrence, death, etc.? How do you feel happy again? How do you not feel that you are suffocating? I have been having a lot of ups and downs since my diagnosis. Sometimes I feel just fine, that I will beat this thing and that I will go…

Grrrrrrrrrr! I am SOOOOO mad at my insurance!!!!!
I just called to get my Tamoxifen refilled, at bit early. It was called in as a 'vacation override'. About 2 hours after, my pharmacy said it was denied. I called Health Net...and was told that they only authorize one vacation override per year, and that I had had one in August. I said to the gal, quite calmly, "So, Health…

Ridiculous worry
This is SUCH a little thing...but, since I am still sitting home with this dang drain in place after implant expander surgery and must be going off the deep end, it really bothers me. I got a notice in the mail today of an appointment scheduled for me by my onc. in February. She seemed to initiate this. I haven't had any…
