UPDATE:  5-22-13   Still at it!   Just updating to let you all know you are not forgotten!

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Hi all. You all know me well enough by now to (hopefully) know where I stand on religious views (I never do like that word religious). :) Anyways....for all my friends on the board who would like to be added to a "task prayer event" please just post the name of the person you would like prayed for down at the bottom and the physical need. You can be as specific as you would like, or just post in general (example: "H&N Cancer, spread to liver, request healing" or "post treatment, pain and fatigue is high, request strength") etc., etc. The goal is to "post the names and request" on a wall in a room and to pray EVERYDAY (one time every 24 hours) and fast one time per week (Wednesday for our team) for the need / request. May have as many as 1 - 3 persons on the "prayer task team" at first, but it may grow to more. The information will not be posted anywhere else online (except for this message thread) and the "prayer task room". For those who do not subscribe to praying to or belief in Jesus Christ as the Son of God, please do feel free to send us positive thoughts and well wishes. Of course we invite everone to add their name and request, but we also understand not all people subscribe to this belief. This thread is NOT meant to offend, just another way of reaching out and offering help to all of us who have been through this mean disease called Oral Cancer. The "task praying" will begin Wednesday July 18th and will continue until discontinued notice sent. The goal is to keep it going. Ahy person who would like to join at part of the prayer team may send me a private message or just post you will be on the "team" so that I can know you too are praying / fasting. Fasting schedules I realize may be different due to medical or work schedules, but the goal is to fast at minimum 1 time per week for those on the list. Best, Tim Matthew 7: 7-11 New Living Translation 7 “Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. 9 “You parents—if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead? 10 Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not! 11 So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.

While I don't have anything specifically going on, how could I ever pass an opportunity for someone to say a prayer for me.

Like many here, even though I'm post Tx, there are always moments of anxiety and concern.

So any help with doubt in those moments are always welcome.

Thanks John. It was hard to post this thread not due to I don't believe in what I posted, I was just afraid everybody would run for the hills (because I looked crazy) or they would stone me (biblical humor) ...means a lot that you would post.

You're at the top!! :)

Thanks,

Tim

please add the Dittos to your prayer list, I just want you to know I have been impressed with you Tim and your faith. I believe we have the same biblical beliefs and I pray for you and the others dealing with this beast. So yes all though Jesus already knows our needs I have the BoT as you did and same treatments. For Diane my wife and caretaker my prayer is always for her 1st so please pray for her because we all know on this site how important our caretakers are not matter who they maybe. So God Bless you and thank you for your prayers.

Doug's wife - strength / blessings for being the caretaker
Doug - continued healing / well being for many more years

The above is how you will be on the list: Sound correct? :)

NOTE: I would never want to hold myself out as "strong" in faith. I had my serious weak moments in all of this, but I told myself, my daughter / sons (and my wife too) I would not ask "why me" and I didn't.

I told them I just would have to trust He knew what he was doing if or not I lived or died (and I can tell you I sure wanted to be around for my wife and kids, and still do) :)

included on your prayer list. I believe we have the same principles and beliefs, I was raised by a very strict Mother and sometimes I feel like I'm not living up to her teachings, I do believe in God, but I don't attend Church and sometimes this bothers me

I had cancer of the epiglottis , surgery by de vinci robot @ The James Cancer Center in Columbus, Ohio, November 2, 2011...so far 71/2 months out, everything is clear..and pray it stays that way. thank you

7.5 months ...heck, we practically finished up at the same time :) I finished 1/20/12

Best,

Tim

NOTE: I found a wonderful church. The pastor preaches staight out of the Bible, I presonally like that. Better yet, my daughter actually "wants" to attend the youth group :) as a Dad I can't tell you how delighted that makes me with my 13 year old daughter. Also, never let it bother you...you know the good Lord is always open and inviting ...never condemning .. :) I tell people I go to church b/c I NEED to go, not because I am a saint :) :) :)

This is just my way of saying thank you to the Lord in front of all my cyber family. I ask so much of Him so often ..and I know we all don't get good news or the news we would like sometimes ....but when we do I don't want to forget to be thankful.

So I am thankful tonight for Phrannies great NED! I'm not ingnorant to the fact she is strong, has a great family support and wonderful doctors ...I am thankful to them too as we all often are ...just wanted to make sure I did not leave out the Lord. :)

Really glad for you tonight Phrannie....you have always been such an inspiration to us all and your attitude is amazing.

Please count me in too! My request is for my nephew (the one who was so badly hurt when he was hit by a car last Sept.) He's doing well, but I have told my sister-in-law how wonderful the people are here and how they've been praying for Brian. When I talked to her this morning she said please ask them to pray for healing in Brian's left leg and his shoulder and the therapy he's receiving. Also will have to have surgery on one eye so it will be forward instead of wandering! He was pretty well messed up and has had upteen surgeries but Praise the Lord he has come so far not walking yet but therapy will be given for that. So it would be Brian - leg and shoulder and walking again. It is nothing short of a miracle that he survived. He will be 39 on Thursday the 19th. I hope it's okay with everyone for this request even though his need is not cancer related. His dad was my brother that passed away from a massive hemorrhage to the brain 8 weeks after my husband Charlie passed away. Thanks so much and I think this is great!

And of course it's okay to add a non-head and neck individual...any family of yours is a family of ours on this board :) We have all shared so much ...there's just that special bond now ...your stuck with us!! :)

I'm one of the few religious people in my circle of friends and family, even though I'm not traditional in my beliefs. Thank you for your kind offer.i do believe in the power of prayer and studies have shown it works even if skeptics don't understand why.

My goal is increased energy, adopting a healthy lifestyle, and clean scans starting with my first in August. Please put a good word in for my partner, Charlie, who is not a believer but has been an amazing support for me through this..

Thank you!

Tim,
I have been listening....and seeing God's work being done here every single day. Your prayer list is a wonderful way of giving back. When you say fasting....what are we talking about....bread and water ? (no joke seriously want to know) I have faith, always have, but traditionalist I'm not. I would love to learn more of what you feel inside...heck everyone. I have been searching to find an outlet since my dear Mother passed with ovarian cancer 2 yrs ago. You see I had the honor of walking her through almost all her trials, along side of my Father and siblings. I held her (literally) as she passed from this darned old world....and left with such an emptiness. Not with God, never...but with the medical profession. And well yeap now have a cancer that doesn't have many answers and the jokes on me. Just kidding on this part of coarse...just the luck of the draw. But you all have been in my prayers every single time I read any of your posts...or read anyones blogs (ect) And Tim you are a very special person..including your dear family. I wish anyone searching the ability of finding the creators loving touch....and the knowledge to know this isn't the end, only the beginning. Katie

Hi Katie ....

As for fasting: "fasting" is basically giving up something physically we want / need as a way of showing we desire to draw closer to the Lord. Though fasting is synonomus with food, it does not always have to be food. Fasting one meal or "fasting" something we like to do (I love to take my Scout into the back country often) and spending that same time in prayer or reading the Bible instead ...is a way of "giving up something" as a show of desire to draw closer, find a deeper walk, with the Lord.

I am not a trained pastor.

There is a site I really like called www.intothyword.org ...very good site! If you click on the left hand side under "Bible Reading Plans" then click on the one that says "God, The Bible & You" ...it's very informative and I think you may like it. :)

As for the prayer list, here is how I will have you listed:

Katie: Healing for cancer that no doctors have an answer for :) Let's see what He can do. Also for finding a deeper walk with Him and answers to questions you have about Him, fasting.

Jan: undetermined neck / oral cancer - healing and good outcome from surgery August 15th

(Jan is a dear friend of mine from Rock Springs WY. She attended the same church my wife and I taught Children's Church at. We just found out a few weeks ago she has advanced, appears to be BOT cancer with lymph node invovlment. For 8 months or longer the primary doctor kept telling her it was a fatty tumor on the side of her neck) She now is in very poor shape, bleeding in the throat, in pain and is barely eating she says. She can't talk we only communicate via text. She goes to the Huntsman (sp) cancer center August 15th for surgery.

I won't just ask for my hubby, who is in this battle, but for myself and my sons. I think I worry more than any of them, because I think I have to have control of everything. So I ask the prayer group to pray to God for Bob, Kathy, Ray & Dan that Bob will survive this and continue to be our rock, since we are all so needy.
Thank you, Tim, for this wonderful suggestion!
I pray every morning and night - often at times throughout the day, too - for every person suffering with cancer. I never realized what a terrible thing it is until it hit my home.

I know what you mean. I lost my dad and older brother (49) to cancer just this last year, then I was diagnosed with BOT stage III ...my poor mother, losing her oldest son and husband of 50 years...she has been through it (as well as my wife and kids losing their Uncle and grandpa).

I truly believe in the power of prayer ..and ceratinly hope you can join our prayer task team if you desire ...I just printed the discussion feed and pray each day at a certain time for each request ...and we fast on Wednesdays for the needs.

Best,

Tim

NOTE: I am anxious to see what the Lord can do with all of this ...He is a big God!!! :)

Please pray for myself, wife and kids and give them strength. I have battled tongue cancer for almost 20 years but the past year has been the most difficult with 4 mouth surgeries (radiation on the horizon in sept)as well as renal cell cancer March 7(kidney)with mets to the lungs late April. There are many friends and strangers who are praying for me and it has worked as my scan from monday showed the mets have disappeared. With my condition this happens less than 1% of the time. Please include us as we can use all the prayers we can get

thanks

So sorry you have had to deal with this for 20 years...but at the same time I was so happy to read the mets have disappeared!!

I am very happy to add you to the list. I read you post just after I finished prayers tonight ...and went back and said one for you, your wife and kids.

Listed as: Jeff, strength and complete healing of tongue cancer and any other cancer
in body so no more pain and hardships with this disease.

Strength for Jeff's wife and children. May they see their husband / father
NOT have to endure anymore of this!

Keep us posted Jeff. I know what it is like to watch your wife and kids "worry and stress" over seeing you go through this. No husband / father wants that for his family. It was one of the hardest things to watch my five children ages 2 - 13 see me in such a state ..yet I could do nothing to keep them from having to witness it. I can honeslty say it drew our family closer and certianly made our faith stronger.

I can't imagine how tough you must be to deal with this for 20 years!!! Your wife and children too!!

Tim

...and count us in too, please!
Please include in your/our prayers also my father who will start his treatment this Wednesday and he sure does deserve a second chance in his life as his childhood and life weren't a party. He was always a strong man, wonderful husband to my mother and great father to me, his only daughter. We really need him to stay with us for long time in the future to be able to enjoy his only grand daughter and the rest of the family. As we live far away from each other our plan is that he and my mom move closer to us. So they will sell the house and move to my city. I am sooooo much looking forward to that - to see them both closer to me and my family. This illness really drew our family together and my dad definetelly deserves a second chance for full life. Like all of you and your loved ones who go thru this terrible desease.

So let the prayers be for Slovenian family. Entire family (my dad, mum, me and my husband and little daughter. We all need a real chance to be together for long time in the future!

God bless you and your family, Tim.

Tim,

It's very kind of you to offer up such a gift. I myself am only a part time believer, but am sure that prayer helps. I have asked for success for your group - never sure when I start out whether I'm reaching for God, or tossing my thanks and hopes to the universe. I'd appreciate a request that I remain free of cancer, and the "lump" in my throat is just a temporary lump, and not part two of the stage four villain I fought before. Also that I am successful at taking better care of myself (been backsliding) and find ways that I can help others here and there. Man, I sound needy.

Do well.

Sorry I took so long to respond. Just got back from a 3 day camping trip with my two oldest kids and the church youth group! No phone or internet service AT ALL ..wow, wierd but actually quite nice too :)

Happy to have you on ...as for part time believer ..no worries on His end ..He is at it full time :)) get it ;) (wink wink).

..and so you know...you absolutely do NOT sound needy ...all we have been through and the fact they are some of the toughest treatments ..you sound perfectly normal to me.

Okay..listed as Pam: remains free of cancer, that the "lump" in her throat is NOT cancer that she continues to do better at taking care of herself. That she can find ways to help others.

And thank you VERY much Pam for asking for success for our group!

Please keep our fellow warrior Glenna M in prayer tonight, as the Lord is calling her home. Many knew her here - "putting on her big girl panties" and "her ars kicking boots". She fought a good fight, and was inspiration to everyone who read her posts. She never whined or complained. (Not that there is anything wrong with that! - Lol!)
I pray she goes peacefully, and painlessly into the comfort of the Lords' arms. She will be sorely missed, and I only regret the miles between us prevented us from being together, but she will always be my Sister in my heart. May God bless her family, and comfort them. I will end this post as she always ended hers.

I wasn't aware of Glenna's situation, and I'm so sorry to here this news. She was a super soldier in this damn fight and I too hope she passes peacefully and painlessly. It's realistic to understand that many former posters, from 3-4 years ago, have decided to refrain from posting due to many factors. I just hope that many that I haven't heard from are doing well. And yes, God please take her in your fold, and provide comfort to her family. She always wanted us to believe.

I can always use another pray, I am doing Deep Pharyngeal Neuromuscular Stimulation to try and get my throat to swallow again. Right now everything must go through the Peg Tube, it is hard to be able to smell and taste food but not be able to swallow it. Thanks and God bless and be with you.
