Neurologist Nurse called - Low/No Vitamin D in his body.

Options
The nurse called the house yesterday and told my husband he has no vitamin d in his body and he needs to go out and get some and take immediately. Not sure why his vitamin d levels would be low. He gets out of the house everday.

    Blood Work....
The chemo, rads, meds, etc....all hammer the body.

I went in to treatment with all of my blood work in normal ranges....perfect health (other than having had cancer, LOL)....

It took nearly a year for all of my blood work to return to normal again....

Now I'm just abi-normal mentally...LOL, with a few select others of the Ab-Normal Clan....and you know who you are...

    Very common problem
Pale skin. Winter. Not enough sun on sun-covered skin, etc etc. You can read all about it on the internet. Not certain how this relates to ataxia. Did they comment on that?

i found out the same about 9 months ago. my vitamin d was nasty low. my numbers were so low i had a huge risk of heart attach and stroke.

they gave me a script for the first month with extreme 50,000 units per day. then i was told to use d3 over the counter 3000 units per day. what a wonderful help this was for me and slowly continues yet to see some differences.

personally if it is that low i would call them back to see if they think a script for a month would help get your counts turned around going in the right direction.

by the way i try to find on the days when the sun is out without clouds to be out in it as many have told me it helps stimulate the vitamin d to activate. not sure this is true but still does not hurt your system

good luck getting his numbers up quickly.

    Just kinda on the worried
Just kinda on the worried side. I read low levels of vitamin d can be signs of cancer.
He is just so skinny, memory loss, neuropathy, Ataxia and his personality has changed some. I guess this is the new normal, but right know my husband is just a shell of his former self. I am not trying to sound ugly, he has even made that reference. I love him with all my heart. Just wish things would get betterfor my man, healthwise. Thanks all for your concern and support. What would I do without you all calming my fears.

    Takes Time...
It really does take time to recover..., months and even years for some things.

He was hit hard, so it stands to reason, it's going to take awhile...some things may not be the same, hopefully many will return.

But be as you are with concerns and don't just blow things off either... It's a fine line we walk these days...

I am 8 months from first treatment and 6 1/2 months from last treatment. Still have occasional ringing in ears, lost thoughts from chemo brain [maybe], neuropathy in hands and feet. All of this is getting better from vitamin d to yoga to accupuncture. Sometimes it feels that you have to work hard at concentrating. Sometimes it is frustrating. At times, I forget how to smile and then do something to make a smile. Sometimes I get emotional [like I want to cry] for no apparent reason. When I get down, I listen to Laugh USA or Blue Collar Comedy on my XM Sirius radio. The laughing helps a lot. There are hurdles and ups and downs. Long hugs with my wife help a lot. Keep positive and smile, Homer

    caution
Be careful how much D you take because if you take too much it is toxic.
I would only take what my doctor recommends. not a trainer. Trainers are not medical doctors.
