Just found a lump

in Breast Cancer #1
I was sitting here tonight watching TV. I reached for something and noticed that things didn't feel quite right. So I pressed around and found a lump in the breast where cancer was found in August. It's about an inch long and sore. Located in the upper outside quadrant. I hope beyond hope that it's an infected lymph node or something like that.

I guess I'll be calling the oncologist in the morning. If morning ever gets here. I took a couple of Ativan just so that I'd calm down a bit. My anxiety level is through the roof. I'm tempted to call all the doctors. My GP, oncologist, and radiation oncologist. I'm most comfortable talking to the radiation oncologist. I guess because I've seen him the most. Think it would be okay to call him? He said to if I needed anything.

Please, say a prayer for me.

    Did you have nodes removed? Could be scar tissue. Lymph nodes can calcify sometimes. The area where my node was removed was sore for almost a year. Even if it is a recurrence it would probably be local. That happened to my friend and she had more surgery but is still bc free 16 years later. Don't lose hope. We're hear for you! Please keep us posted.

    I am sorry that you found another lump, but I agree with the other ladies, it could be something else. If you are most comfortable with the radiation oncologist, then that is a great place to start. None of us like to feel uncomfortable with any doctor, so start with your comfort zone!

    I did have two lymph nodes removed. They were both negative. Where the lump is located is a good distance from where they removed the lymph nodes. Not that this couldn't be a lymph node but it is very unlikely to be scar tissue from the lymph node removal--it's just too far away.

    I can't thank you enough for the kind words, thoughts, and prayers. I'm sure you know what a difference they make.

    Well, I went to the doctor. He is so good and kind. Anyway, he doesn't know what it is. He said that I still had some swelling but that it looked a lot better. The lump is hard to find when I'm laying down but as soon as I sat up, he felt it right away. He wants me to go back to the surgeon. He said that he'd contact the surgeon to give him is opinion, which is basically that I need an ultrasound and maybe another biopsy. He said that based on where it is located and that it is so symmetrical, that it might be man-made. Meaning that the surgeon did some stitching there during the operation or clamped off something in that location. He felt that since the surgeon was the one that really saw what was inside there, that he should be the one to see about this problem. I've already got a mammogram scheduled in two weeks and I'm to keep that appointment. I'm also to point out the spot to them so that they can tag it and look at it more closely. I tried to call the surgeon's office to get an appointment but it was 4:30 and I guess the lady that does the scheduling was gone for the day. I left a message but I'll call again on Monday if she doesn't call me back by noon. So, I feel better. I still don't have any answers but I didn't get an OMG, your cancer is back. I consider that a victory.

    Please, continue the well wishes and prayers. I'll keep you posted on what happens.

    And, I can't close without saying this... Thank you for being there for me in the middle of the night last night when everything seemed so dire. You are all very special people.

    Of course we cant tell you what it is. but as stated you have done the right things. it is very possible it is is some weird benign thing, so dont go "there", will include you in my prayer list. hugs

    So glad you receive some promising news.
    You don't have a definate answer yet but you doctor's reaction is a very good sign. Keep us posted. Hugs.

    i've been through this
    I've been through this 3 times in 2 years.My bc was found.Then as I was getting prepped for surgery the breast center found another tumor.It was marked and both came out the same time.One malignant and Thankfully the other benign.

    Then the doctor did a margin surgery 3 weeks later.Checked margins and made sure he got all the cancer.I did a self exam and found a lump or THOUGHT maybe fluid. Just waited to tell the doctor since it was only 2 days before surgery.He checked me and said we'll see after surgery.It was a benign tumoor.Then last July 2011 my 2 year check up another tumor was found.It was tested and benign.It is still in my breast.All this within my left breast and in 2 years.Finally this month I got the OK not to come back for a mammo for a year.

    It may not be anything but I am like you,scared everytime this happens.Call the doctor and I will be thinking of you till you see the doctor and find out what it is.

    I saw the surgeon this afternoon. He did an ultrasound. He doesn't know what it is either. You can see a lot of abnormal tissue in the ultrasound. Even I could tell the difference. He did see something that looked fluid filled but it wasn't near the lump that I found. He did say that there wasn't an increased blood supply in the area so that's good. You couldn't even see a clearly defined lump on the ultrasound. It's very odd. He said he didn't know if this was the cancer or not. He said that if it he has never seen it present like this.

    Right now, the working diagnosis is infection. Of what? We're not sure. Maybe it's mastitis but he said that it was a little far from surgery for that to happen. It might be a lymph node but he didn't see anything on the ultrasound to indicate that.

    I'm to take an antibiotic (levoquin) for seven days. I should be feeling better within 72 hrs. If I'm not or it gets worse, I'm to call them back. I go back in a week. The next step is an MRI.

    I hope that it is an infection and goes away. But if not, do get the MRI and even a biopsy just to make sure Sylvan.
