What is it lately on here???

Is it just me, or does there seem to be more and more random offensive type threads popping up on here lately? People just signing up and posting spam, or hawking one thing or another, posting links?
I just get personally irritated with things like that because THIS PLACE is our comfort zone and safe haven. Where we can relate to each other, support, and help one another.
It's not a place to try and sell your items, push your ideals, or judge.
I just worry that a person newly diagnosed, or awaiting biopsy results, may come to this site and see posts like that and turn away from this place which is such a wealth of information and support, and which i would have probably lost my mind without during my treatment last year.
*hugs*

    Heather,
I know this may be easier said than done, but please try not to let these posts get to you.

Who cares what one person thinks of you or your posts? You know how much we all care about you here, and I agree with you -- what's important about this site is the support we give each other. No one's posts -- I don't care what they say -- can ever take that away from us, we're still here for you and each other, no matter what.

For myself, I only read the posts I want to, and simply ignore the ones that would just make me angry or stress me out. Life's too short.

    Big hug to you,

    Traci

    WOW - You got flagged!
All I can say is "WOW"!

We definately have had a lot more than usual 'pebbles' hawking their 'snake oil' recently.

    I agree with Heather
There is something going on. In addition to spam and people trying to sell staff and infect the side, I feel a **** in the "spirit".
I am sure it is just me,, but I think even regulars are less thoughtful about other people feeling and the choice of the words.
    I am with you

    flaggers aren't anonymous
The moderators know who is flagging even if we who post don't. There has always been spammers from time to time and it's not just this site. It's a shame. But that's how it is.

    Someone didn't like my reply
Someone didn't like my reply to the guy on here who wanted us all to message him about all the answers he had reagarding chemo.
I'm sorry, but I don't do the whole "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all" - that's not real life.
But really there isn't anything offensive in the post, i save my offensive stuff for facebook ;)

    Heather...
We know who flagged your post... Very obvious! It was "Mr. Tom". "MD"...he flagged you because ALL OF his posts were flagged...he 's playing "got cha"...
You put him in his place and he didn't like it....how dare he call us ignorant and uninformed! Perhaps, sadly, he has a problem having a normally "women's disaease".....or just women in general....
I,too, believe in ignoring some posts...but when someone posts utter nonsense and untrue information, I think it's our "duty" to, as others have said, to try and protect "newbies" just starting this long, awful journey...and are terrified...

This guy was hawking the same "book" as someone last week, who also got flagged!

Hopefully he's learned his lesson....you don't mess with the STRONG, INFORMED,EDUCATED BUNCH OF WOMEN ON THIS BOARD....especially those that are estrogen deprived! lol
Hugs to my pink sisters...Heather, you rock!

    We need a "Like" button!
Heather, I thought the same thing as you about the odd posts. I just opted to ignore them as Traci said.
Hopefully, people don't turn away because of the infrequent, odd posts.

This is an amazing sight that has helped me out often so a few peddlers aren't going to stop me from coming here.

But in his ignorance he picked on the wrong one. Yes - she may have flagged some of his posts, I don't know - but I know for a fact who flagged several of his post and it was not her.

    Agreed
This is a comfort zone for all of us. And when people try to do unrelated things, like sell, it's a selfish and inconsiderate thing to do. But like others said, you just need to try and ignore them. Perhaps we should flag them as offensive? After all, we are the members/patients here, and this is our community of sisterhood.

Let's just try to focus on ourselves and ignore all of those other posts that mean nothing. I personally dislike those where they are trying to sell you stuff. Do they really think we will buy a book on "the cure for cancer"? Seriously? That post annoyed me, but I didn't comment.

    Ok, I said enough.

    Hugs

    too much good
There is too much good stuff going on here to send away the newbies. They know where the comfort comes from. And it doesn't come from the offensive people trying to sell stuff. All we have to do is keep doing our job in spreading hope. We can let the moderators of this place give the boot to those who are flagged for wasting our time.

    newbie
I'm a newbie and I read that guy's drivel. Just because I'm new, doesn't mean I can't figure out that guy was full of it. I just ignored it and went on to the next posting. Guys like him won't drive off people like me. There is way too much good going on here.

    I remember the post
I remember the post.I read what others said about it.I am fine with what the answers were.I just ignored it. To many other posts that are warranted. If this person wanted to be controversal then others can contradict.

Many posts that are controversal are ignored.Look at some where they post and they go through without any remarks. Not saying I would never remark about some posts that are offensive but so far I haven't.

We learn alot on here about our cancers and our treatments. Also we make friends.I just forget the bad and move on to the good.

Heather, you being flagged is amazing to me
I don't understand what about your opinions needed to be flagged, but that is just me. AND, I just thought I would add....I have a lovely beachfront mansion full of designer bags and shoes available for sale right here in the midwest. Did I remember to add that it has a library full of information on how to cure any and all cancers in just 3 easy steps? J/K

Between imposters and spammers there is never a dull moment

    I personally think they HAD
to have flagged your post in error. Nothing you said was the least bit offensive but true and helpful. Not to worry sister, I agree with you. It should be a "safe" place to be encouraged.

    Hugs,

    Sylvia
