Lee's going LOA

Lee has asked for, and been granted a leave of absence from the hospital for the night. I think he's a bit panicky about the stent going in on Friday, so he just wants to spend the evening before at home, with his lovely wife (that's me!) and his little baby dog. I'm so excited that he's coming home, if only for the night. They did not really give any indication when he'd be officially released, but I'm hoping that the stent placement will be a huge success and they'll bust him out during the weekend.

I think the news of mets a few days ago has been pretty hard for him (and me too of course) to digest. Also, the woman in the hospital who he was sharing a room with him passed away the other night, and I think that hit hard. His mood has been a bit low, but the ativan seems to be helping a bit. (The nurse told me that he was grumpy during the day yesterday)

I am confident that the stent will be a success, and aside from being a wee bit too dopey from the drugs, he has very little pain. He actually ate some chicken broth and ice cream last night, first time 'eating' in around 2 months now! (unfortunately he ended up vomiting afterwards), but hey, at least he gave it a shot!! He's been pretty wobbly when walking, which is a bit worrisome, but he's up and walking around the halls.

So, I'm picking him up after work tonight, and we're going to spend the evening snuggling and telling each other how much we love each other. Friday morning, we're back to the hospital at 7am for the stent, then I guess we go from there..... Fingers and toes crossed for a great stent experience!!! I'm just going to keep thinking of Jo-Ann and Steve, how the stent gave wonderful quality, and no complications! That's going to be us too!!!!! (God, please let it be us too)

As last update, I have been reading everyone's posts, and am saddened to see lots of bad news going on. I continue to think of you all daily and read your updates, even though I've not been posting. Between work and visiting Lee, and trying to eat and sleep, I've not much time left over at the end of the day, but please know, you are all in my heart. Niki, the one with the great news.... Yay for Hutch!! I'm so relieved for you!! Everyone else, hang in there, may there be better days ahead.

Chantal

GREAT PLAN-GREAT NEWS!!! GO LEE!!!! GO CHANTAL!!!
    Chantal and Lee,

    THAT is a great idea!
A night OFF from the depression of the hospital atmosphere.
    GREAT IDEA!
I can say that again, GREAT IDEA!
I am proud of him and you for taking such a bold and meaningful step to spend this time together and I hope it is a VERY special night. MAKE IT SO!!!!

I can ONLY imagine how nervous Lee must be, facing getting this stint after all the horror stories, but I really DO think it will be okay for Lee, as his tumor will not be shrinking, so no risk of the stint moving or slipping, we know his tumor is higher up than most, and if he can already eat a little broth and so forth, the stint should allow him to 'EAT EAT' if he so chooses.

I am SURE after two months his stomach doesn't even KNOW what to do with food in it! I would say the throwing up is perfectly normal considering that fact! It will get better and he will be able to keep food down, after trying a few times soon enough!

As for Friday, we will be thinking of NOTHING but you and Lee and waiting to hear something, anything, to know HOW IT WENT and when Lee is back in his room awake.

I do not know Canada's hospitals and since they are letting him have this "night off" which I could never see them doing here in the states (too much paperwork and liability with release paperwork; takes HOURS to get released when they are DONE and it's time to really LEAVE here in the hospitals), so if they can do THIS for you, maybe he WILL get out before the weekend is over. Here in the states it seems all the doctors go home for the weekend, and you are stuck with residents and weekend-shift nurses, and I could never get released until a Monday. I DO NOT say this to disappoint, but if it is the same there, just prepare for the worst (stuck in the hospital until Monday shift doctors arrive to release after a final checkup) and hope for the best (he gets out soon as he's up and around or pees or whatever silly requirements they always seem to have on releasing us!) I am hoping for a immediate release after he is up and about!

I am so excited for you two to have this special night. CUDDLING SOUNDS GREAT! After ALL he and you have been through, you two sure do deserve this break. Make it a memorable evening and do anything you can think of and stay up all night!!! BE KIDS AGAIN-TOGETHER IN LOVE!! I KNOW you two are good at that. Wish you had time for a quick flight to VEGAS!!!

Anyway, ALL my love and inspiration coming you way, and will be praying for Lee and you and waiting, as I said, for news of the completion of the stint and his release, finally!!!

    You two go cuddle now!

    Love and God bless,
    -Eric

hoping good things come from the stent
    Dear Chantal,
I was so sad to see the post about the mets and how hard it is to keep getting bad news. When I was first diagnosed and went from in situ to Stage III in several days, I answered the phone Cancerland a couple of times out of sheer frustration. But I will pray so hard that everything goes well with the stent and Lee gets to have some great quality eating going on so he gets more strength back. With not eating no wonder he is so wobbly. You both are so brave in light of all that has happened. My thoughts and prayers are with you both.

    Free as we'll ever be...
    Chantal,

I have to dedicate a song to you two! It is "Free" by the Zac Brown Band. My love to you both! Here are the lyrics.

So we live out in our old van
    Travel all across this land
    Me and you

We'll end up hand in hand
    Somewhere down on the sand
    Just me and you

    Just as free
    Free as we'll ever be
    Just as free
    Free as we'll ever be

We'll drive until the city lights
    Dissolve into a country sky
    Just me and you

    Lay underneath the harvest moon
Do all the things that lovers do
    Just me and you

    Just as free
    Free as we'll ever be
    Just as free
    Free as we'll ever be
    and ever ---- be

We were born before the wind
    Also younger than the sun
'Ere the bonnie boat was won as we sailed into the mystic
Hark, now hear the sailors cry
Smell the sea and feel the sky
Let your soul and spirit fly into the mystic

When that foghorn blows I will be coming home
Yeah when that foghorn blows I want to hear it
I don’t have to fear it
I want to rock your gypsy soul
Just like way back in the days of old
And together we will go into the mystic

No we don't have a lot of money
No we don't have a lot of money
No we don't have a lot of money
No we don't have a lot of money
No we don't have a lot of money
No we don't have a lot of money
No we don't have a lot of money
    All we need is love

We're free as we'll ever be
    Just as free
    Free as we'll ever be

So we'll live out in our old van
    Travel all across this land

WOW. That's "our" song. I know that took allot for her to share that one as it is a MAJOR heart stringer for us.
What a beautiful thought for you two. I hope it brings you as much enjoyment as it does me, but I can't listen to it without crying anyway.

I hope you two really have a beautiful night.

    Enjoy Your Evening.
I have never replied to your blogs but have been following Lee's trials and tribulations. I want you to know that you are both in my thoughts and I am hopeful that everything goes well with the stent and Lee's condition going forward. Like many here, I believe it is important to stay positive. Enjoy your evening!

    I will be praying

    Chantal,
I will be praying for success for Lee tomorrow, and hoping that this will allow him some relief. I understand totally not having time to post, sometimes I don't even have time to read all the posts. When I opened it today, there were 43 unread posts! I fell asleep while trying to read them all. Take care,

    Chantel,
    I will be thinking

    Chantel,

I will be thinking of you and Lee tomorrow as Lee has the stent inserted. When my dad had his inserted they did it as out patient surgery, good old USA, and he would have to lay flat for the next 24 hours or so. Then he would have a sore throat and he wouldn't want to talk for a few days but after that it seemed the procedure was not too difficult to handle, especially after all the chemo side effects.

    Anyway good luck.

    Lots of hugs,
    Cindy

    Good luck to you both
Here's a great big hope that the stent will be something positive for Lee and you, both. He will feel pressure for a couple of days, but drugs will do their magic. His tummy may not like it for the first few hours, either, but that should pass. Soft foods, cut up very small, washed down with lots of fluids. You can also get a lidocaine liquid which helps with any physical discomfort for the first couple of days. It numbs the immediate area in case it feels uncomfortable. They should prescribe that right away.

I will be thinking of you both. I was very touched by your last message of your night of cuddling together. How beautiful.

And Eric, I love your song dedication, except that we fell in love with Van Morrison's version of "Into the Mystic". Still brings tears to my eyes to hear it played.

    Sending hugs to all,
    Peace,
    Jo-Ann
