Short notice but can anyone come......

Some of you might remember that my fear of closed spaces made me ask for help for my last bone scan. I got through it with the help of all of you.
I was scheduled for a nuclear medicine scan of my parathyroid and had to walk out because I couldn't do it. I am embarrassed about it, but what can I do?

So tomorrow at 1 pm I am trying an open MRI w/contrast and am so nervous!
I know in the scheme of things it is nothing to worry about but I have been nervous all weekend and today even more so.

If the pink bus could come to Sheilds MRI with me I would be soooo grateful. After everything so many of us have been through, I'm sorry that I am asking for help with this test but I really need it.

Thanks to anyone who wants to take the ride and thanks for understanding.

    We are all entitled to be a little nervous about any tests and scans we have, after all we have heard those words that every human dreads. And when you add in your "love" of closed-in spaces you really have the right to be anxious.

    I will be there with my bright pink silly string, I love making sure that every one around gets who we are and why we're there. I also love riding in the back of that big ole pink bus with all of the rowdys.

    Let us know how it went, and don't feel bad about asking for help, I know I have a CT and my mammo both in October plus my MO visit...I will be asking for help with all of it, even though there are no indications of any kind of problems.

    This test isn't that bad your not closed in and you don't have the feeling that you can't get out. you will be fine and we will all be there with you. Count on it.

    Don't be sorry or embarrassed. We all have certain things that frighten us. I didn't like having my first MRI and was very nervous about the second, but if you can take your mind somewhere else it helps.

    Let me try to ease your mind....I, too, have a horrific fear of enclosed spaces...this is what I do for ALL my scans and MRI's....for the MRI's I have to go outside my cancer clinic to an imaging center that has the " open " MRI machine...first...I take a Xanax about 45 minutes before hand...then when I am called back, I calmly say....( now don't laugh, I swear I do this..). I tell them I have a fear of enclosed spaces and to treat me like I am blind...I don't want to see anything...I swear I back into these machines, with the techs help with my eyes closed...I NEVER OPEN THEM until it's all over and they are helping me off the table....This works for me....I just finished my second go round of rads...I never once look....the open MRI machine is soooo much better...lots of space between your face and the top of the machine....I think the key is the Xanax and NOT LOOKING AT ALL! My last MRI was just my head...to qualify for a clinical trial oral chemo...they did put a plastic mask over my face so I wouldn't move my head....I NEVER LOOKED...and got through it just fine....another little "trick" I do is pray the entire time....Also it is possible for your doctor to order conscious sedation...know several who have this forMRI'S....Don't be embarrassed...trust me they've seen it all!

    Please keep us posted, we care.....and keep your eyes closed!

    Thanks so much everyone! I feel a little better and when I had a bone scan I did actually request a blind fold so I wouldn't peak :) I know what you mean about not looking. Once it was off my face. I was fine.
    I don't like that idea though of the mask! I hope they won't do that.
    My doctor gave me 2 Valium pills and said to take one an hour before. The second one is IF I need it.

    I means so much to me to have you all there. It's at 1 pm Eastern time and I know that I'll feel you all with me.

    If you get too rowdy they might kick us all out.....oh.......... one can only dream, LOL

    I;m there on the bus!
    I take Xanax beforehand and then go on breathing really deeply. I actually feel asleep during my MRI guided breast biopsy alarming all the techs who were worried that I had passed out...no, just resting!

    Thanks again to all of you. I can't wait to get this over with.
    The coffee and cinnamon rolls sounds delicious and I can smell them now!
    I'll keep you posted after the valium wears off :)
