Another new club member - radiation machine issue

Hi all, Thanks for your inspiration you didn't even know you were giving. I've been lurking for a couple of weeks.
I'm 3 1/2 weeks into this, stage III rectal cancer. Anyway, I'm in my second week of treatment, chemoradiotherapy five weeks. But today and yesterday, the radiation machine has been down. It is being fixed but I am anxious about missing these treatments and being out of standard protocol. Also, I've had port issues and have switched this week from continuous IV 5FU to Xeloda, which I have to say I like better so far. Wondered if anyone else has heard about others having days off from radiation due to a broken machine, not exactly a confidence booster. Thanks.

    We are always sorry to get new members, but happy that CSN exists for us all.

    I don't have any experience with your situation, but if you have concerns perhaps you could talk with your doctor or onc nurse. I have a feeling that a short delay won't compromise your treatments, but asking about anything which causes you concern is something you should do.

    Good luck with getting treatments back on track.

    it did to me, but just for a coulpe of days, no real long term stuff. Like Marie says, though if your concerned you should ask your doctors or nurses to ease your mind.

    When I had my
    When I had my radiation/chemo pump last summer the last 2 weeks got pretty hard on me and I was told I may need a delay to allow my body a rest. I didn't want any delays and was careful of what I did and said. But I know I had some days that were close to the tech wanting to check with the Dr and I said no don't. My last day was terribly hard and I knew I could not go another day and so did the Dr that saw me that day. Be careful and please listen to your body, not stubborn like me.

    So I know delays can happen and they just catch you up to the number of treatments you are supposed to have.

    Welcome to the board . . . .and sorry that you have to be here. I am new to the board but was diagnosed a year ago with stage 4 CC. I have not had radiation but have gone through 24 chemos - all I can say is that I have found that they seemed to get easier to deal with as time went on. Warm hugs to you.

    Thanks for the welcome and I'm sorry you have to be here too, not that it isn't good company. Good news though, the radiation machine was operable today. I never dreamed I'd be so happy to be getting my @$$ burned with radiation, so is life as the new normal.
