I just completed 33 rads after 6 chemo treatments and 2 lumpectomies and being triple negative, I am all done!! From now on just quarterly checks and twice yearly mammos...
I plan to celebrate tonight at our Relay For Life in Plantation Florida and walk as a survivor!!!
With all this joy over being finished I was told that I'm losing my job (of 3.5 years) because the business was sold and our office is being closed.
So at 58 (with micro-short grey hair and being very overweight) I will be out job hunting! I'm hoping that I am able to lose some weight now that treatment is over (they wouldn't let me before) and perhaps rest and get my strength back from the 8 month journey since diagnosis. I am so trying to look at the job loss and an opportunity. All those sayings about "God doesn't give you more than you can handle" and "when one door closes, another one opens" seem kind of hollow, but I am looking for that "pony in the sh$#*".
I hope that I can just sit in the joy for a while longer, before job hunting has to take over.
Good luck to all my sisters and brothers in their travels along this journey.
Hugs,
JoAnn

    Celebrate, Celebrate, Celebrate.

Good luck on the job hunt. If you didn't have a problem getting a job in this economy I would think you had a magic lamp that you could rub. So if getting a job takes some time don't beat yourself up. Will be praying for this for you.

    Good luck with the job
Good luck with the job search. Don't get discouraged tho. Keep at it and let all your contacts know you are looking and available. My DH was out of work for three years but finally found a job he loves. You just don't know where that open door is and sometimes it's a window and you have to crawl through but every problem has an answer. Hang in there. And congrats on finishing treatment.

    Good Luck
I am so happy you are done with treatment, that has to feel good! I totally understand looking for a job in this economy. My mom is the same age and lost her job awhile back. The good news is she has found some work off and on (more on then off) through temp agencies while looking for a good full time job. I hope you have good luck in your job search.

    Congrats
on finishing treatment. Walking as a survivor in the Relay for Life is a good way to start the celebration. Compared to BC looking for a new job should be a lot easier. Good Luck!

    Thank you all
    for your good wishes.
I was almost in tears (ok--I was) last night at the opening ceremonies for our RFL. To see all the purple teed survivors was so inspiring. They raised over $113,000 before the event opened! What a thrill to receive my SURVIVORS tee shirt, be sashed, and walk the lap as a survivor! I walked another lap with my wonderful husband as caretaker and then another as part of his team. Being so out of shape, that winded me, but hopefully that will be the start of my exercise program. Now that I don't have to stop into the rads office each morning, I can use that time on the treadmill (I hope--6am is awfully early) for however long my job lasts.
I'm doing my best to see this job loss as an opportunity to use the time to heal, get back in shape and move into hubby's house from mine (his is larger and has a garage...boys need their toys).
Again thank you all for being my partners in this journey.
    Hugs,
    JoAnn

    SSD?
Apply for soc sec dis asap. Preferably through the social services dept at your hospital. I got it right away that way and surprisingly a hefty retroactive payment and never had to work again. With your DX you could probably stay on it forever.

with your positive outlook you're sure to land another job. Celebrate that you've finished treatment. I too have very short white hair and am overweight. I have a plan to do something about that! Wishing you success.

I think the idea of our BC
I think the idea of our BC sister is a good idea to apply for soc sec dis asap. Preferably through the social services dept at your hospital. She got it right away that way and surprisingly a hefty retroactive payment and never had to work again.

Also I would definetaly start now with the temp market. It seems to be the trend for hiring.
Ask for a Temp to hire position. Once you are in the door it is easier to land the position as a full time employee. It is sad but true, you will have to down play your battle with cancer while you are on the temp job if you hope to get put on full time. Some people who have not been where we are just don't understand.
