I mentioned in other posts that I am writing for my dad who has Stage iv Colon Cancer. He is wondering if anyone else constantly feels like they have to have a bowel movement? That is his biggest complaint right now. All the time even after he goes to the bathroom, he constantly has an urge to have a BM but of course doesnt need to. We were wondering if anyone else is experiencing this and what suggestions you have. He is uncomfortable all the time and is apprehensive about leaving the house because of this strong urge. I appreciate all the help and advice you guys can give. If anyone has found a solution to this problem I would appreciate that info too. He just likes to know that he is not alone in this and it is normal for colorectal cancer. Of course his dr has no suggestions and says he doesnt know what is causing it. Thanks again to all of you! You have been a tremendous help and support!

    One week
I had the same feeling for about a week, last month. I took some Senna to help things along. You might also try stool softeners, but I don't know if you can take them at the same time or not. I would think about consulting w another doctor, seems funny that a doctor doesn't have any advice. I'm still kinda new, so I have very limited knowledge. Hope dad feels better soon.

Thanks for the help! He takes Seneca/stool softner and something else regularly. He has regular BMs but whether he has to go or not, he has this feeling.

    Yes
That is exactly the symptoms I had during that whole week, and I must admit that it was the most miserable week of all. I don't why mine suddenly went away. Tell dad he is not alone.

there can be a few reasons.
there can be a few reasons. my mom went through the same thing. it could be that when they removed part of the colon they left the rectum and anus intact. so when the urge to defacate comes along the body doesnt know everythings not connected so it sends signals telling the body to get to the bathroom. i was told the best thing to do is sit on the pot and let the urge pass. You might also want to ask the doctor about suposatorys.

    hello
i too have this same problem.i was dx in sept.2008 i had radiation for 5 weeks to shrink the tumor before surgery.has he had any radiation?my radiologist told me how the rectum works and my muscles in my rectum are damaged because of radiation.it is something i have to learn to live with.its either live with all the damn side effects or have a permenent colostomy.so i will live with the damage.best of luck to your dad...Godbless...johnnybegood
