    Hi Rene9. I am 9 mos. post
Hi Rene9. I am 9 mos. post chemo and also have really curly hair. I've had 3 trims as it wants to grow every which way. Glad to hear you are enjoying your new hair. It's great to have it back, isn't it?

I am not close to 4" with my silvery curls. This was one way of getting me to update my hairstyle post high school I suppose. I am rather fond of this new hair as well.

    Oh yes!
It is sooooo nice to have hair again! I only go to the salon to take my daughter. My stylist won't touch my hair yet. She said to just let it grow. I do plan to sit in her chair by April though.

    Hair growth after chemo
I am almost 6 months post-chemo. I can't believe that I can actually say that. What a journey it has been. I used to describe myself as looking like Telly Savalas/Kojak. Now I can say that my hair is more like that of Julie Andrews or Halle Berry. It is actually shorter than I remember either of those women wearing their hair though. It has been in the mid to upper 60s here in the San Francisco Bay area so last week I went out without a wig/head covering/scarf of any kind. I am still pretty self-conscious about it though. I still don't think most women would purposely cut their hair quite this short. It is the same unfortunate color (salt & pepper) that it was prior to it falling out. Once it is a little longer I will start coloring it again. The hair in front seems to be very straight and the hair on the back of my head is very wavy. Prior to chemo all my hair was straight. I am grateful it has grown back at all. I can certainly say that I look less obviously ill than I did even 3 months ago. YAY!

    I can relate-
I know exactly what you mean. Even though I was ill, I didn't want to look ill. I stopped wearing my wig when my hair was an inch long and I dared anyone to say anything. After I finished chemo my eyelashes and eyebrows fell out, but now all of my hair is back and I have no complaints. Though at times my hair looks like a bad perm to me. Everyone thinks I have chemicals in my hair when all I have is water and conditioner in it. So, some people don't know what I've been through. I'm just glad it has grown back even and it keeps getting thicker!

    Great feeling....
Isn't it a great feeling to have hair back on your head? Mine came in silver and curly (was 66 years old at the time, so silver it was before and after). Sadly though, the curlies didn't last. They stayed only for about a year and then they disappeared slowly but surely. enjoy the curlies while you have them and if you want to keep them, I suggest you talk to your stylist about some kind of permanent wave. I'm considering it. I'm almost three out from chemo and I loved my curls. Hugs to you, Marilynn

    I know...
I figured these soft curls will disappear because each month I can see a slight change in the texture, but I'm still ok with it. I am AA and I wore my hair straight before so I will have no problem putting a relaxer back in my hair...Though I will continue to treat it well! - Luvin my hair!!!

    Curly,Curly,Curly
I am nearly 7 months post chemo. Mine is really curly and about 2 1/2 inches long. I actually just got a trim to even things up a little. Mine is just about the same color as before. I am enjoying having hair again and it is easy to fix. I use a little gel and I am ready to go. It is nice and thick too. I had a lady tell me the other day "Women pay to get hair like that" I thought oh boy did I ever pay! But its back so I am happy!! God Bless

    Hi Janice!
I wash mine every morning to wake the curls and use Kinky Curly leave in and the gel. They are both natural and work pretty good. I keep saying when my hair changes I will get a relaxer and people keep telling me how they wish they could have this hair. You're right, if they only knew what we went through...

    So true Rene
I will have to try that then. Thats what I thought when the lady told me that, a perm would have been so much easier! God Bless

I still look like a dandelion!
I'm 4 months post chemo and still not fit for public viewing. My "hairs" are very fine and sparse, maybe 1" long now. Starting to see evidence of teeny eyelashes, and I'm becoming very proficient with my false eyelashes. Not a glimmer of an eyebrow yet. Sigh. It's still progress.

    I'm about 3 1/2 months past
I'm about 3 1/2 months past chemo. I'm THRILLED to have a head full of hair now, and eyelashes long enough to wear mascara again!! My hair is about a half an inch long, growing in nice & thick & evenly. I have no curls as of yet, but my hair is growing into a mohawk!! On the top it's just growing to a point in the middle lol. I put some gel on it & go with it!!
    *hugs*

My hair does seem to be thicker and gray! But hey, it's hair.

    I've been taking Biotin and
I've been taking Biotin and my hair and nails look really good. I finished my last chemo on July 1st (Taxotere/Cytoxin). My hair is thick, full and wavy. I'm currently taking Tamoxifen and since Biotin is a water soluble B vitamin, it's safe to use, and approved by my Oncologist. Latisse on the lashes will make them very long and full also....Rx is required.

    Yeeeeaaay! for us!
I guess patience really was the key. I started taking biotin and searching for scalp stimulating remedies, but I was told just be patient and it will grow...and it has...I do still take vit. B6, but it was because my fingers and toes were so numb. But, this wash n' go is soooo convenient, but I know by Spring Break I'll have a relaxer in it...The texture is changing, but it is still very curly.

my hair is on its way out!
So nice to read these comments as it's encouraging to know it will come back! My hair has always super thick and wavy and it's been falling out for about 4 days now but I still have some left. It's on its way out, though, and the most annoying thing is the pieces of hair all over the pillow, my clothes, etc. I have a LOT of hair as I didn't cut it beforehand; thought about it but decided against it. The wig is ready to go and I also have a turban.
