ROLL CALL, JANUARY 2011

Roll call was established a couple of years ago so individuals can briefly view the status of all who were treated for head and neck cancer. Only names of those who enrolled will be listed.

An update will be provided in January and July of each year. In the past, I included the status of the individual. This takes a lot of time to update.

Effective with this January 2011 roll call, the format will be as follows:

Screen name, location, type of cancer, date diagnosed, enrollment date, last check in date

The enrollment date is not when you first had the cancer, but when you joined our roll call group. When you check in, provide a brief summary so others can read on your case and status. The date of enrollment and date checked in need not be provided. I can extract the information from the date of your posting.

If enrolling for the first time, please provide information on where you are from, type of cancer and date diagnosed (if known), your treatment and status. If you prefer to only list your state or country, that will be fine. The date the information was posted for the first time will be the enrollment date.

A special thank you to SKIFFIN16 for creating the map locations. Although you have indicated your state of residence in roll call, it can also be seen on the below map.

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Tampa,+Hillsborough,+Florida&oe=UTF8&msa=0&msid=108290908437938654290.0004899d469e1599afb49

If there are sufficient responses, a roll call update will be provided in July 2011.

Aloha and Mahalo

From Lihue, Hawaii. NPC diagnosed in January 1998. Completed regular radiation treatment in April 1998. Was too sick and suspended, then cancelled chemo. Asked to return in two months for direct radiation implant for lymph node.

Think NET was in 2000. At present, dry mouth has worsened. Only about 50-60 percent of taste returned. Happy to be around 13 years after cancer was discovered.

From NJ, my husband completed treatment on June 10, 2010 for BOT SCC Stage 3 HPV+. Clean scan 9/2010. :))) Still has PEG. Going for swallowing therapy-can't emphasize enough how important it is to try to keep swallowing to keep your tongue muscle strong. He's hoping to have the PEG out by March 1. Taste and saliva back about 80%. On thyroid meds-I think that is helping to speed up his recovery.

D Lewis, AKA Deb, Sierra foothills, California, DX SCC base of tongue, plus bilateral neck nodes, January, 2010, enrolled February 5, 2010. Completed eight weeks of cisplatin chemo and rads on May 12, 2010. Three month PET-CT showed NED. Now eight months out and scopings show nothing abnormal. Will have a second PET-CT in late 2011, which would be roughly 18 months out from end of treatment, unless the Doc feels something suspicious. Life is good.

Still here and I've got as much hair back as I had before treatment. Still, can only taste sweet, randomly. But most other tastes seem to be working and the dry throat is getting better, as is swallowing. I feel I'm 95% back and getting better.

Mid January, 2010 - NPC, 2 of 3 rounds of chemo, then 7 wks,35 radiation with weekly chemo. Completed treatment in May of 2010(or there abouts). Had dehydration during the initial chemo that sent me back to the Onc. for fluids. Also, did not have the last round of initial chemo, because I developed pulmanary embolisms in both lungs and spent a week under observation at the local hospital. I now take Cumadin(sp?) to prevent reoccurance of the blood clots. I still have my chemo port, but the Doc says that it will be ok to remove it and stop the cumadin at the 1 year anniv of the embolisms, that will be March of this year.

Thank you all for the inspiration and support I have received here.

Still clear. The latter part of last year - had several urinary and eye infections. The doctors decided to check me for vitamin D. (a bit low - 10 compared to an average of 30). So I'm now on a mega dose of vitamin D for 8 weeks, after that, I should try some supplements.

Otherwise, life is good. I just celebrated my 58th birthday. Seven years ago, I was still undergoing chemo.

Wishing everyone a happy new year!

Dave Adamson 56 male - HPV-16 Neck Cancer - Tumor on side of neck removed by Johns Hopkins on 1/3/11 - will start 33 VMAT (I hope) radiation treatments and chemo on 2/1/11 for source base of tongue/tonsils. I will try to stay active (weights/bike) as long as I can. VMAT is a new radiation that reduces treatment time to 2-4 mins...

Glenna M - New Hampshire - Diagnosed in May 2009 with SCC laryngeal and NSCLC Adenocarcinoma in left lung. Last CT scan in February 2011 shows a new lesion in left lung. Go back for another scan in May to see if there are any changes in the lesion. I know there will be changes...it will have disappeared!!!

ENT performed an incisional biopsy on 21/07/10 and a well-differentiated infiltrating squamous cell carcinoma was found on the right side of the tongue and then was clinically staged as a T3 N2c Mx Ca Oral cavity. Started chemo treatment on the 22/02/11. God bless us all!

How is the treatment going? Seen your post and was looking for a second voice on the same situation I have a very close prog. as yours but mine went to the right lung. They said I was un-curable but treatable--what ever that means--Doc said maybe two years.

Take Care rufus

Many have not checked back in for year 2011. The list will be updated in July 2011. This is a voluntary enrollment program. Here are the instructions:

The enrollment date is not when you first had the cancer, but when you joined our roll call group. When you check in, provide a brief summary so others can read on your case and status. The date of enrollment and date checked in need not be provided. I can extract the information from the date of your posting.

If enrolling for the first time, please provide information on where you are from, type of cancer and date diagnosed (if known), your treatment and status. If you prefer to only list your state or country, that will be fine. The date the information was posted for the first time will be the enrollment date.
