I Lost My Husband Today

The battle is over and the beast thinks it won. No way. It took my husband's body today but it will never take his spirit or mine.

Paul crossed over late this afternoon peacefully at the hospice center. His decline was so rapid it seemed like it was in the blink of an eye. We had such a great Christmas. A good memory.

His request was no sad faces. Be happy for him. He's seeing all those he loved that had gone before him including all his dogs.

He had asked that a memorial fund be set up at our Vet for rescue animals and for people who would have to give up their animals because they couldn't provide needed medical care. We got our first rescue dog yesterday. She is so sweet but so undernourished and needs some other medical care. She was abandoned by renters downtown. We've name her "Downtown Judy Brown." The name of the fund is Pawing It Forward. If anyone is interested in helping these poor animals send me a private message with your e-mail address and I will send you pics of our first rescue and information about Pawing It Forward. It's a wonderful tribute to a great man and it will help us rescue dogs from high kill shelters and give them the medical attention they need so they can be put into foster homes and eventually be put up for adoption.

Thank you for all your prayers and good wishes over these past months. I will still be lurking in the boards and posting from time to time to give support to all my new friends.

    Skipper,
So sorry to hear that Paul lost his battle. At least you had a nice Christmas with him.I think it's a great idea to have the memorial for rescue animals. I'm sure Paul would be happy that you're following through with his wishes.
Please take care of yourself and try to relax. These past months have been hard on you and since I"ve been through it, I know how important it is to try and take one day at a time.

    No sad face
I do feel heartache for you. You are an inspiration, so stay in touch when you can.
Your husband had a great attitude. I only hope when my time comes I have the same attitude. When he knew his time was short, he was making plans to take care of those left behind. What a guy!

Last night I was reading in Matt. the scripture said, "Jesus saw the woman had great faith, and gave her what she wanted." I started thinking, "how does one see faith?" First thing this morning I read your post. Your post answered my question. I can "see" you and Paul had/have great faith.

Blessings to you Skipper. All the best to Downtown Judy Brown. Take care.

    dogs in heaven
Skipper, I'm so sorry for your loss, but glad that the end came quickly so Paul could go be with all those wet doggie noses in heaven. I've often thought that we outlive our pets so we can have the chance to love more of them! What a wonderful legacy for Paul to leave behind.

No pain, no discomfort, just joy! What a wonderful thing you both have done helping these animals.

    Blessings and hugs to you,

    Sorry
Please accept my sympathy. I know there are no words that can help, but helping the animals will give you some comfort. No sad faces? Like I told my husband if he had been a real sob, then we might manage that. When someone is so well loved we have to hurt. We miss them. We need to grieve. I know Paul understood that. We can be glad that they are no longer in pain, but we can feel bad for us. Take care of yourself now. Fay
