for the swelling in my feet/ankles/lower legs. They hurt so much it was hard to put on shoes or walk. I started the Lasix on Friday and took it Saturday & Sunday. I did not take it today because I have chemo #5 tomorrow and need to hydrate. All I know is that it worked and my ankles aren't swollen anymore. I can start it again several days after chemo if I have the same swelling problem. He also told me to start taking Prilosec for the acid reflux. (I took it for years and stopped after losing 40 lbs. Now that I've regained the weight even small meals feel like they're stuck at the bottom of my throat. As for my cough of 6 weeks - my chest xray showed nothing, my lungs are clear so I started taking Mucinex Expectorant/Nasal Decongestant and WOW the gates opened up. I'm getting rid of a lot of mucus and my cough has loosened up. I will be glad when I finally feel good again sometime after chemo #6????

    You will!!
Dear Char, you will feel better after you're done with the chemo business. It is incredible all the things that happen as a result of chemo. I had my last taxol round a year ago, to the day. While I did have a huge surgery after chemo, I have felt that I am just now starting to find my new normal, and I am happy with where I am at. Try to keep your "chin up" and know you are in my thoughts and prayers...hugs..alison

    Lasix
    Char,

I too had swelling in my legs, ankles, feet, hands etc. I was on Lasix til a few weeks ago. I know where you are had. Just hang in there. It helped me to lay down as much as I could to keep the swelling down. This will pass. Chemo is one tought cookie but we are tougher.

    Lasix (furosemide), aka
Lasix (furosemide), aka viatmin L, is a great drug for edema. Make sure you eat your bananas and/or drink OJ while you are on it. If you feel weak or dizzy, let your pcp know as you made need a dosage reduction.

    Here's a link (because I really can't help myself--lol):

    Cynthia,
    Are you a nurse?

    Cynthia,
Are you a nurse? You have very good detailed answers and I was just wondering. I am always informed from your posts.
    Thanks,
    Wanda

I too am on Lasix and it works too well sometimes LOL. I know where every bathroom is . On a very low dose though. I was on hydrochlorathaizide for years and loved that one but it made my potassium spike way too high.
Excuse my spelling, I know it's not correct :)

    LOL, guessing the viatmin l
LOL, guessing the viatmin l crack gave me away??

I am a neonatal nurse practitioner and my patients are all under 12 lbs, so thank you for saying you are informed from my posts as adults are not my usual patients. But I am also a nerd ;-) and from a very medical family: father a doc, sister a doc, mother a nurse, daughter almost a PA--hopefully :-)

    How timely!
My oncologist just prescribed Lasix this afternoon. My ankles and feet started swelling a week ago. I just knew I was in heart failure (why not, everything else is falling apart?), but oncologist assured me this happens to chemo patients. And now that I see some of you are also on Lasix, I believe her!
