You have found yourself at a great place for information, encouragement and support. I was diagnosed in March, had bilateral mastectomy in April, Chemo in June and am getting ready for reconstruction in November. It is a journey!! Most of it is not pleasant, but totally 'do-able'. Tremendous strides have been made over the past several years and the treatment isn't nearly has horrific as in the past.
Keep positive, drink LOTS of water, and reach out as you need to for support and you will be just fine!! There are actually blessings to be found in this experience. Keep your eyes open and you will find them.

I was where you are in Spring 2007. My Sister was a survivor for 6 years. Her battle ended in 2003. In April 2007 was doing my self-exam and felt something like a boiled egg under my right arm that had not been there before. I knew what it was, but went through the mammogram, sonogram, oncologist exam, biopsy, and all in order for the Doctors to be convinced. I did chemo, bilateral mastectomy (prophylactic on Left side), had expanders in while I did radiation and more chemo, then reconstruction. After a 3 year battle, I am a cancer-free "new me" in body and mind. The fear, confusion, anger, and anxiety you are feeling are absolutely normal. This is a good site to come to for the voice of experience. I bought "A breast cancer journey" from the ACS online bookstore. It was very helpful to me. Other tips: Write down any and every question you think of when you are at home and take the list to the Dr. Take someone you trust with you to help you write down the answers. 2 heads are better than one, especially when so much information is coming at you so fast, and it is all so scary. Also take people up on their offers for help. This is not something anyone can do alone.

You sound perfectly normal to me - actually i feel the same way at times and I'm 2 1/2 years out from my dx!! Sorry you have to be here but glad you found us at the beginning of your journey. Just let us know more about your dx and any questions you may have - there always seems to be someone who has been there, done that and can help you out. We are all in the same ballpark - we have bc- but we are in different sections of the stadium.
The most important thing to know now is that you WILL get thru this.

You will find a great source of support and information on this site. I'm 35 yrs old- no family history until this summer - my mom was actually also diagnosed with breast cancer 2 months after I was. I started coming to this site this June, while I was waiting my biopsy results, and I started posting the day after I was diagnosed. I was diagnosed with IDC in my right breast (2.5 cm tumor), had bi-lateral mastectomy (prophelactic on left side) with tissue expanders put in at the time of my mastectomy. No lymph node involvement. Fills on tissue expanders every 2 weeks, and chemotherapy every 2 weeks (opposite weeks so they dont keep me TOO miserable!). I had 6 rounds of chemo and I just had my last one last Thursday! I had a port put in for my chemo treatments. I will not be having radiation.
Everything in the beginning happens SO fast, and it can seem like you're being pushed to make quick choices on some pretty big decisions. I dont know if reconstruction is something you're looking towards, but one thing that really helped me was to talk with a plastic surgeron and oncologist BEFORE I made my decision on what surgery to have. I found it much easier to weigh the pro's & con's that way, and was more confident in my eventual decision.
Please ask us any & all questions - it's such a relief to talk to others who have "been there, done that" or have already been where you are going.
In the beginning, for me, I got a prescription for xanax for anti anxiety, which really helped get through some tough times. I know saying "keep a positive attitude" sounds so cliche, but having a healthy attitude & positive outlook on your recovery & life in general really helps things go smoother, and also, I have 2 daughters, 9 and 2, so it helped me to keep things as normal as possible around our house. Hi. You have taken the positive step of joining this site. I'm sorry you are here, but this will make it so much easier. It helped me through chemo and rads. No question is too small. I am 10 mos from dx and it has been quite an ordeal, but as someone already said, this is doable. All the Best.0 -

Ditto to what everyone else has already said. This site has so much to offer you in the way of support, encouragement, hope, and knowledge. All from experience! My suggestion to you is to learn as much as you can about your specific type of cancer and its' treatments. Knowledge truly is power. Best wishes to you as you embark on this journey and God bless us all.

Welcome, your pink sisters are always here for you day and night.
I had a bilateral masectomy in aug. but was dx in June. For two months I had tests, biopsy, mri, cat.scan, pet scan, etc. Waiting for results is torture. I had ductual carcinoma. One breast was 4.5cm other breast was 1.0 that one was small. I've had 2 chemo's so far another coming up next week. Feel pretty bad for about 5 days and then I feel fine.
I bought two inexpensive loose leaf binders at walmart, hole puncher and dividers and kept everything organized (medical and biopsy reports, leaflets that come with your pharmacy med's, blood test reports, copay receipts, bills which I kept in seperate evelope ,etc.
For me it makes things easier when I'm organized and I do refer back for information often.
Come and post anything...we are here to help you get through this.
It is very normal to be overwhelmed by all this. Believe me I was very confused, scared, and numb. I was everything you discribed. Are you having mascetomy. or lumpectomy? Chemo or Rad's or both? As you get more info. Please Keep us posted.

I am sorry you need to be here but so glad you found us. There is a wealth of help and info here. There are awesome ladies, and some guys to share info. I had a lumpectomy in March 10 followed by chemo and rads am now on Tamoxifen. Ask anything! God Bless

Like the others have said before, you will find a wealth of comfort, strength, and plenty of strong shoulders here for you. These are amazing women (and men) who have helped me through my journey. I am a two year survivor. Like my oncologist told me the first day we met, "we are going to become best friends". We are. I still see her every week (today actually). I was diagnosed in late September 2008 with Stage 1 Triple Negative bc. I had a lumpectomy, 6 rounds of chemo and 36 radiation treatments. My hair fell out, but it grew back. Its a journey you don't want to make, yet it seems to be over before you know it. We will be here for you every step of the way, new warrior!!!!

Well we are kind of in the same boat i was just diagnosed august 30 found the lump on my birthday august 21 had a lumpectomy sept.14 and started my 1st chemo on the 13th of october. Yes i got all kinds of mixed emotions confused scared and yea very mad but i have found lots of encouraging words on this website cuz no one else is gng to understand unless they are gng or went through this. so stay strong and dont loose focus ask lots of questions no matter how silly they sound write all you questions down and ask your onco. and have lots of good support frm family and friends. Oh most importantly i found lots of peace of mind and prayer and reading the bible there is alot of scriptures of healing in there.0
