Hi everyone! Just wanted to share with you what a great weekend my hubby and I had.

First, the weather is so beautiful. I can't remember a better Fall. The trees are turning, warm days and cool nights and big old harvest moons! Just the way we like it!

We got invited to a friends house in the country for an old fashioned hay rack ride and cookout. It was so much fun! I had never been on a hay rack ride before and it was a blast. So, here we are on the hay rack, snuggled ever so close together with a blanket covering us as the tractor pulling us moving ever so slowly. We just moved down the country roads, singing songs, laughing and talking, and, hubby even snuck a few kisses in. :)))))))) I really liked that part..a lot! lol

When we got back to their farm, here was this blazing, huge fire for everyone to sit around on bales of hay and just have fun. The grills got to cooking and the hamburgers and hot dogs were being devoured by all. Seems all of that fresh country air stirred up our appetites. Some of us cooked our hot dogs over the fire. I burnt mine, as I love them that way. lol My hubby finally took over for me, as, I was also losing them left and right. The darn things just wouldn't stay on my stick. hmmmmm

They had hot cocoa, apple cider, pop, beer anything you wanted to drink. Since the night was getting a bit chilly, the hot cocoa was our choice.

And ofcourse, the marshmallows came out. How much fun to roast marshmallows! Hubby and I do that a lot at our place, and, they always taste so good. I have never liked smores, so, I didn't even attempt that concoction.

So, I hope you enjoyed reading about the hay rack ride and the rest of our evening. It was so much fun and I will never forget it. So many friends, so much fun and memories for a lifetime. Life after cancer is good, very good!

Love you,

Sue :)

Thanks! I am glad that I gave each of you a virtual taste of the hot dogs and marshmallows & how much fun just getting together with friends can be. I agree Stef that some think life will never be normal again and I totally understand that, so, if this helped even in just the smallest of ways, it makes my heart happy!

Ok, I have to ask. Is a hayrack ride a hayride, or is it different? I have never heard of a hayrack life, but it might mean what we call a hayride??

Anyway, what a wonderful time! Sounds dreamy and i am soooo jealous.

    Hi Sue,
Good for you girl!!!! Sounds like a wonderful weekend. So glad to hear that you enjoyed yourself so much. My husband and I actually got away for a couple days too. We went with friends to our place in Myrtle Beach, SC. The weather was absolutely wonderful (high 80's and the ocean was 76 degrees!).

In some areas, a hay wagon
In some areas, a hay wagon or hay trailer may be called a hay rack by some.

Sounds like ya'll had a BLAST!

Being the horsewoman I am, though, I have to say that I prefer a team of draft horses (or 2 teams of 'riding' horses) pulling the wagon. Also, the old fashioned me says that 'mechanical pull' is not the way to go for a traditional hayride. But - all that really matters is that a great time was had by ALL.

Your night does sound like a blast. I can almost feel the chill in the air on your hayrack ride and smell the smoke at the bonfire. You don't like smores? Hubby and I love them.

Glad you had such beautiful weather and such a great time.

Yes horse are still used - by some!
Some still use horses - I know several who do. Unfortunately, there aren't many who still use horses for farming - just mechanical monters so the horse drawn aren't as easily available. There are a couple of ranchers I know that keep draft teams just to use during heavy/deep snow or blizzards for getting hay around to the stock as they say that the horses and sleds are a lot more reliable than the machines. There are a couple of ranchers that you can go to their ranch on certain days for a hay ride followed by a campfire (for a fee) or have them bring the team and wagon to your site (provided it's legal at your site) for a hay ride there and then either have the meal prepared ('trail drive' style) or do what ever you want to do yourself.

Yes, I have been on machine pulled hay rides but the noise of the machine takes away (for me) a part of the pleasure that just isn't there when there is no sounds of the hooves, the bells on the harness and even the sound of the leather as it moves.
