Hi I'm Pepe, lam from Barcelona, got a colon cancer so I'm an active member o the colorectal board but in this moment l would need your assistance and support;
Few days ago my wife Tote, had her ordinary control of breast and here comes the shock,
mammography and echography showed an image "suspicious of malignity" on her breast, very little one (0.9cm).Her gynecologist confirm that was very suspicious and suggested biopsy, but due to difficult location he made non aggressive surgery and removed the little tumor and all around, just in case.He is very good friend of us and normally very positive and optimistic but this time he is quite confident that this is a cancer but of course must wait for the results. The good new is the size and the early detection. This is my question, 0.9 cm not nodes involved(that we don't know yet of course) would it be treated with chemo? in the affirmative case are there different chemos depending of stage?, as per other friends experience we know how hard Brest chemo can be but don't know if it depends of stage or is the same for any stage, of course you will understand our worries, both with highly aggressive chemos would be a difficult situation to manage and she is very sad and worried for that possibility Moore than for her problem as she is very positive due to early detection!
Well this is all, hope you understand my poor English but i try to do my best!
Thank You in advance!
Pepe.
Barcelona.

    Joe

Glad to meet you, but very sorry it has to be because of this.

I was diagnosed with bc last year, and it was also very early. When they did my surgery they found no lymph node involvement, so I was hoping also that I would not need chemo. There is a test called Oncotype DX that they can perform for this situation that can give you a better idea whether chemo will be beneficial. My results were in the intermediate range, which meant for me that chemo would only increase my odds by about 4 percent. After much thought and discussions with my doctor and husband, I decided to do the chemo to give myself every possible chance of only having to do this once.

I was very fortunate not to have bad side effects from the chemo (I had Cytoxan and Taxotere, but others have had different medicines). I was able to keep working for the most part, just taking a couple of days off to rest after each treatment.

Many on this board will tell you that while chemo is not fun, it is doable, so do not be too afraid if her doctor does recommend it.

I will keep you and your wife in my thoughts and prayers.

    Pepe -
    I had to have chemo

    Pepe -
I had to have chemo for my breast cancer due to my age at diagnosis (34) and the size of the tumor (2cm). My mother was diagnosed a few months after me and initially was told she would NOT have to have chemo, as hers was a very small size like your wife's. My mom ended up having 1 positive lymph node so ended up having to have a total of 6 rounds of chemotherapy. It is NOT fun but chemo IS doable. They have great medications for any side effects that might come up.
Blessings & best of luck to you and your wife!
    *hugs*

    Pepe, welcome and first of
Pepe, welcome and first of all lets pray it's not cancer!! Should it be cancer, I don't have the answers on what type of chemo they use or if they gauge it by stage or size of the tumor. Mine was pretty far advanced and very big so they hit me as hard as they could with chemo. Should this be cancer let's pray it is very early and can be treated with chemo or radiation and be gone. My girlfriends was caught very early and they didn't do chemo, they just did surgery and radiation so that being said, chances are good that this is all they will have to do. You and your wife are in my prayers and please keep us posted to the results.
    Hugs,
    Kari

I have to have that Neulasta
I have to have that Neulasta shot after every chemo that I get, my white blood counts get low, the neulasta brings it back up. It does give me bone pain but it is tolerable. My Dr gives me painkillers to help with the pain. The pain I had was the worst after the 1st Neulasta shot, it hasnt seemed as bad since :)

just hope and pray that there is no lymph node involvement. It's very very small, so that is in her favor for sure! You're at the right place for sure. Lots of love, help and prayers coming in from all the pink sisters on here for sure!

    Pepe,
    So sorry that you are

    Pepe,
So sorry that you are here but as you know from the colon board, having friends who have travelled the road really helps. My tumor was small 1 cm and no nodes and I did not need chemo. I had a lumpectomy and radiation. Much will depend on your wive's age, node involvement, the type of cancer, Oncotype testing (if she has this done on the tumor) and the recommendations of her doctors. Other's that had the same diagnosis as I did have had chemo. It is really a case by case decision. Know that if she needs chemo they are lots of ladies that can give you input to any side effects and ways to help deal with them. But most importantly know that we are all here for you and her and she is solidly in our prayers and good thoughts.

Sorry You Had to Find Us
    Hi Pepe,

Welcome and pleae tell your wife that we're wishing her all the best. Hopefully she will get the news that it's not cancer. Stef is right about all that goes into making a decision should you get bad news. The only thing I can add is that it's my understanding that the Oncotype test is used only for Stage 1, estrogen positive cancer. I think having the test is well worthwhile as it gives another test to factor into the equation. I was lucky and had a low score so didn't need the chemo. I am taking Tamoxifen.

Good luck to you both and I'm hoping that you won't have to make any decisions at all.
