We need to share the good things in our lives as well as our fears and negatives, even (maybe especially) non-cancer related things. When people share how they spent a wonderful day/dinner/hour/trip, whatever I find it very inspiring. Sometimes it even helps me to reach deeper into myself to enjoy my good times. We need this more than ever right now; we have had upsetting + disturbing losses, worries, etc. I think the people we have lost would want us to keep our hopes + dreams alive + to live life to our best abilities. I am realizing more + more everyday that this type of cancer is a journey + sometimes it is important to learn to live with it. It won't necessarily be "behind us" for everyone as we so fervantly wish it to be, for some of us it is going to be "with us". I have found so much inspiration on this board from people who have "beaten it" but also from people who are "living with it". It is wonderful that people can come here with "scanxiety" etc. concerns + can be reassured, comforted, understood etc., but it is also wonderful when we share good things as Buzz suggested. In my opinion, the more of this that can be done right now, the better. This does not meant not to share "bad news", worries, etc. That always will be a key benefit this forum provides.

You are right,we need to share the non cancer things to show that we can have a "normal" life despite the cancer, and if we have to we can live with it.

    Here;s something simple:
I really enjoyed watching for my first time a baby cormorant by an inlet not far from me; real thin, all; white about 7 inches tall; then the mother flew over and they floated on the water for awhile......A few days eatlier, also for the first time ever, I finally saw both baby and jeuvinile sea gulls.......Didn't have camera ,as usual, either time ....steve

    I sometimes think it's a bit lopsided....
You see, many of the 'old timers' have either left completely to lead their lives, or just lurk...really, nothing much more to say except a bit of an update every once in a while.

So, the active posters are the semi-colons that are in an active fight...and, that makes sense then that the news is less encouraging. I, myself, can count many, many survivors that I knew during my fight that have gone on...and are doing fine....

Admittedly, I have had my share that I have needed to say 'goodbye' to, but there are also others, like jams, who are very much living and happy...CP8 is evidence of this!!!!

Hugs to everyone, lurkers and posters!

    Hugs, Kathi

So True Miss Hollandaise...hehe....sorry had to do that :)
Yep , a lot of old timers have moved on and yet I don't feel like an old timer I have been here about 2 years. It would be easy for me to leave this site and help me to forget about anything cancer, and for some it was a much needed release to leave something that reminds them everyday of a battle fought that has no good memories but only serves to bring up emotional upsets. Yes , I can largely agree with all who have moved on, I certainly don't see anything wrong with leaving bad memories behind. My deal is that for me this is the only place I can go to and get instant information and daily updates on whats out there for me to look at in options for treatment, diet, exercise, sexual or anything that I need info on, I come in here , post up a question and ******POOF***** instant answer. Plus the added fact that I feel like I am doing a community service in " Paying It Forward" to the newbies that come in here scared to death as was I, 2 years ago. I am sure that I will lurk more and more as time goes on without posting, I see me posting less all the time, but when I feel like I may be able to throw out a different view, or as lately get some consoling that is needed sometimes just for the heck of it, I know its here, and that no matter what time day or night I can count on this place for peace, consolation, and answers....and most of the time some BS answer or quip that Phil, Kerry, Nana B, or a few others throw out there to throw us off or keep us from getting to bored with the normal conversations that go on in here. They do tend to keep things moving along....and thats why I keep coming back.....Im kinda like a bad penny...... :)

    You want good news?
I've lost 10 lbs. Yippee! Can fit back into my old days pants.

Another good news tidbit...I'm gonna' be a Granny in November to a baby boy. Downside is that they live in Seattle. Oops, no that won't be a downside...I'll just hop aboard a plane and fly on out to beautiful Seattle frequently. Yes!!

Good thread.I have only had time to read for the most part lately because of the (bad) situation w/my parents....but we'll talk about that on another thread at another time.

I appreciate all of you good folks:)

I have wondered about this; it makes sense. Your posts are precious because you could have moved on, but instead you share your experiences + hope with us.

    And then there's me
    Kathi,

I'm one of those not in an active fight, but I still like to come in and check on people and hopefully share some kindness along the way.

Oh, and occasionally I like to whine a bit. *grins*

    You are awsome!
Gail, I have often thought to myself how wonderful it is that you post so regularly + are so supportive to all of us. I don't remember any whining though. You take good care!

Something wonderful to share. :) Last Monday my incredible husband had 2 doctors appointments and then we had to pick up our daughter. He knew he had chemo the next day so he put his surfboard in the truck. It was awesome sitting by the beautiful blue Hawaiian water watching **** catch great waves and riding them all the way in. It made me so happy. I had to call his mom and describe him on the wave to share the joy. That was a great day.

    Aloha,

    staying busy
I have had two weddings to attend that last two weekends; one was on pebble beach, it was awesome! the entire family spread out in a beach cove as the bride walked down the pebbled stairs.

This weekend I spent it making apricot jam, berry syrup, mango jelly, and preserving peaches in a light syrup. Today, I am making tomato basil soup and canning it. Then it's marinara time. I also want to can some asparagus soup. Eventually, i will can enough soup for winter.

Last night, we spent the afternoon watching the kids on the slip and slide, while we and in the front porch. We stayed out until 9 pm and enjoyed the time. Family stopped by and had ca cold drink(s) and we chatted happily. The kids conked out and so did Nana!

    sorry for whining...
sorry peeps...I don't come on frequently...but when I do I whine...so sorry. I'll try not to do that...I just feel you guys are like my family because you guys helped me soo much when I was taking care of my mom...and somehow coming back here makes me feel I'm going back to people I used to "know" when mom was still around...and I feel so close to you guys...I know this sounds odd (plus, here I am whining again) but I cannot talk about my feelings as open as I can here...because I know, some of you experienced similar, some of you are a patient and can give me some ideas, comfort, or just listening..but I understand that it's odd to read these, and good news would be better to "forget" about your own issues...so, I will try to find some good stuff and write when I have something good to share, okay?
Take care all of you! And have a nice rest of the weekend!

    Hey Sophie!
We love your posts; you are nor whining; we all need to come here to vent. No one else can understand our situation more than other cancer survivors + caregivers or provide answers to the many questions we have. I wasn't on this forum when you were first posting, but I love your posts! You are a beloved part of this family. Please make sure you come here whenever you would like to vent, ask opinions or share your good news (like when you told us how well you are doing in school + how you want to become a scientist to fight cancer, how you are bikingetc. - that is the kind of good news I love to hear!) We are here for all kinds of news, but lately there has been some bad news + worries. Sometimes it helps through the tough days to hear the great(big or small) things others are doing; it really encourages us. Take good care + please keep in touch; I know you are special to so many people here. Please continue to post with questions, comments, concerns etc. I know when I started this thread I wasn't trying to discourage people from venting, but to encourage people to also share good news; sometimes we might not think something is important but it truly is.

It sounds like you have many wonderful family times; I think that is terrific. I also really admire how much "home" cooking you are doing - it all sounds delicious! I saw in another post that you made food in a crockpot so people could graze + eat when they want; what a fabulous idea! What did you make?

This weekend was our Relay for Life and my team was the #1 fundraiser bringing in over $11,000. I felt so blessed to have such a great group of people out walking and helping me with everything. My 4 kids were there and all helped me so much. I am so blessed!!! Now today I am resting. It was quite a tiring day.
