Flank pain....
My problem is that I have been having flank pain on my left side in my back that has not gone away. Thought the Arimedex may have been responsible, but I guess not. I'm worried. They did find some blood in my urine. But so far, that's it. I am sorta on a hold because our new Insurance starts on the first and requires authorizations. Can't get in for too many test before that. So need to wait till the first to get things set up.
My question....has anyone experienced this type of pain? Dull, achy, and constant. I even have a sense of 'fullness' like something is waiting to 'pop' deep inside me. Any thoughts?
Sigh....always seems like I am either heading for a storm, in a storm, or just coming out of one!

It is good to see you posting, but I'm sorry this is the reason for it. I don't know what could possibly be causing you pain like that, but know that I'm praying for you and I hope this is a storm that misses you.
We really need some good news and I hope it turns out to be something that is easily taken care of.

It sounds like a

It sounds like a kidney infection. I've had them before and what you are describing sounds very much like one. Have they put you on any antibiotics. You don't want to wait too long to get treatmen as they can get serious. Do you also have a full feeling in your bladder? If it turns out not to be bladder infection or kidney, ask them to do an IVP in addition to any catscans etc. I had one done when I was passing lots of blood in my urine. It is a good test to take a look at kidneys, utheters, and the bladder. Much less invasion than a cystoscope but that is a good test also. Most of the time flank pain is related to kidney infections but you want to have them make sure that is all it is. Am I remembering right that you have had your uterus and ovaries removed? I will keep you in my prayers that this is something sorta simple. And I will eat some ice cream just for luck. I have missed you and Mimi and so many of the others. But I also have not been as active here. Keep us informed on what is determined on this and remember, you are not allowed to have any serious going on. Okay.

Poop?
Moopy would probably kill me for passing (so to speak) this story along, but anything for you, Pammy.
Last September, Moopy had pretty much the same pain you described. She thought it was a kidney infection. When it got annoying enough, she decided we should go to Urgent Care and get on an antibiotic. Hah. The UC doctor, who was very kind and very serious, ruled out the kidney infection and started scanning away. Two scans and an X-ray later, Moopy had 1) a growth near her right lung, 2) a cyst on her pancreas, and 3) what looked like an obstruction in her bowels. Great!
Moopy decided to make an appointment with her regular PCP, the awesome Dr. Hee-Sun Kim. Dr. Kim was already booked, but she switched patients with another doctor so she could see Moopy. She came in smiling as she announced her diagnosis: Moopy was full of poop! As Moopy's PCP, Dr. Kim knew that Moopy has had regular issues with "regularity." Dull ache? Check. Feeling of fullness? Check. Moopy got a stern lecture on hydration and diet, and we were on our way.
Resolving the concerns about the cysts took another couple of weeks and an endoscopic ultrasound, which neither of us even knew existed. We were supposed to consult with a pancreas specialist in St. Louis, but the EUS guy in Joplin said he could check it all out. Both were benign, and the Moopster (or should I say the Poopster) was good.
The point is this, Pammy: what you are experiencing sounds like exactly what Moopy had going on last fall. It may well be a question of poopativity. Even if it is not, it is probably some other tweak or twinge. It is *not* cancer - that's what everyone was telling Moopy back then, and everyone was right. Now I am telling you the same thing. I look forward to hearing from you that I am right.

I am glad to see you, however sorry for your pain. We missed you here. I agree with Stef, beginning of July seems as a very long time to wait for the treatment. Kidney stones usually give a sharp pain, however dull is possible too.
Have you recently done any blood work? I hope metabolic panel does not require authorization.
Wishing that is will be nothing serious. Please let us know results.

You had me ROFL. Hope Moopy forgives you but it was for a good cause. And Pammy, kidney stones are another possibility. I forgot that not long ago I went to the ER with horrid flank pain, vomiting, and passing blood (how did I forget this). I was filling out the paper work and puking into a funny little bag they gave me. Then I had to pee in a cup, they put me in a room and gave me wonderful drugs to take away the pain. I was there for several hours. They did a catscan but couldn't determine anything but I peed several times with blood and pain and they felt it was possible that I passed the stone before the catscan. I went home after several more hours, no more pain and no more blood. So maybe a kidney stone. My pain came in waves, almost like labor pains, started dull and got sharper and then would go away. But what Joe said could also be he cause. Aren't you glad you have all of us doctors to help you out (read mislead you) with this. Hope the pain goes away and Joe is right, it is not cancer.

I haven't had flank pain, but lower back discomfort. Guess that's what I'd call it. Had visible blood for a day. Seen onc last week. Did a urine test, no blood. Course, I waited a couple of weeks before told anyone, cause of having a appt. So off to the urologist on 7-10. I didn't have urinary problems like UTI. No popping feelings. I'm thinking kidney infection for you. Running a temp.?0 -

I don't know what, if any, other symptoms you are having, so it is impossible to diagnose here. It could be almost anything, but I am also worried about your kidneys. If you continue with the flank pain, especially if accompanied by other symptoms such as fever and urinary frequency (see link below), you should see a health care provider. Kidney infections can lead to life-threatening complications.

My Onc and I just went over all this last week, which has brought me to "here we go again!"
I have no UTI symptoms, it was just a trace of blood, no sharp pain, no moving pain. Although sometimes I question if it 'feels' more towards my spine at times. It is always there! And it is more prominate right up under my last rib. My Onc wants my PCP to follow up since he is closer. I have decided I will not have anything serious going on and that will be that!!! LOL0 -

Yes, I just had all my bloodwork done and they included a BUN because I was complaining of this. All looks good on paper. I will be getting a tumor marker test in 4 months, but don't know if that would help me now. It's hard when you are switching Insurances in the middle of treatment! Urghhhh....

Joe, you absolutely had me rolling this AM!! Thank you! I would be sooooo happy if someone told me I was full of poop! Unfortunately, I am pretty regular. I really, really thought the Arimedex was the cause (too hard on my kidneys to process), but I have been off it for 3 weeks and no change. But, I have to admit, that this was never a consideration until you brought this topic up! Hmmm....you just never know, maybe I AM full of 'poop'!! LOL

nope, no temp either. The popping feeling I get is because I feel like someone has put a blown up baloon inside me and it is too 'full' and ready to "pop" or burst if I move the wrong way. It is weird to describe a feeling of fullness. I guess like I have a swelling 'inside' going on?0 -

That is what has me so baffled. No fever, no UTI symptoms, nothing to connect it to. Just the trace blood in my urine. So I guess the scans are the next step, I'm sure. I do have to go back this week and re-check the urine.
I worry because I spent almost a year complaining of pain in my upper arm they could not diagnose when they finally found my cancer. Now that I have gone through all my treatment, the pain is completely gone! I believe the tumor was pressing on a nerve and I was having 'extended' pain?
So, when I am experiencing any pain or discomfort now, I second guess if it is really something occuring in that particular spot or not.
