It was an outpatient surgery, so we went in at 7am and got home at 5pm. It all went well, except they gave me Keflex through the IV and I get very sick with that. Started puking on the way home and haven't stopped yet. Hopefully it will soon, because I can't take any pain pills, they just come right back out.
Not able to sleep (got a really good nap during surgery), so I figured I would scan the boards. I have such a hard time accessing the site that I haven't been on as much lately.
Hope I haven't missed someones good news, so I will just send a blanket "woo hoo" to all of you either finishing, starting or dancing with NED.
Take care everyone and sweet dreams!

your surgery went well except for the aftereffects of the Keflex. I can't sleep either so I thought I'd cruize the boards.

Love and light,
Vicki

And that your surgery went well.

I also HATE the feeling of nausea. I start to get a little queasy just hearing other describe it!!

Glad you're able to get some rest today and hopefully you can catch back up from your restless night.

Take care,

I know my hubby is a "sympathetic puker" too. He had to eat his dinner in another room. Will try not to describe it. Feeling great this morning, such minimal pain, but can now take my meds.
thanks!

Cat, thank you for posting. I have been thinking about you and the surgery yesterday morning and waiting and hoping everything went well. I am sorry that the Keflex made you so naseous. To me, that's even worse than pain. Hate it, and hate that you experienced it.

I hope that you were able to sleep after this post and that you are resting with no more nausea. Your Robert is taking good care of you, I am sure of that. My very best to both of you. Thank you again for thinking of your friends here and letting us know how you are. Feel well soon, my friend.

I appreciate your good wishes and caring. Yes Robert is taking care of me, and I am like you, nausea is worse than the pain, which is pretty minimal anyway. Never was sick in my life until the first bc surgery, yesterday was actually the first time Robert has ever seen me throw up. lol. Slept off and on through the nite, but have nowhere to be today so I will take it easy.
Hope your work is being easier on you too, at least we have a weekend comin up, you can rest too!

I am with you and Moopy, the nausea is the worst. I hope that it is under control now and you are sleeping and resting. Glad that everything else has gone well. Prayers that you mend and continue forward with NED at your side.

It seems as if I can access CSN during the hours I am at work, and cannot when I get home. Oh well, we can still chat on FB right?

Another sigh let out since all went well. Good thing I quite smoking because I find myself holding my breath all the time! Maybe I should take up swimming? Nah....I would have to give up ice-cream so I wouldn't sink! So sorry to hear the Keflex made you sick. Take it easy, just kick back and read that much awaited Steven King book that came in the mail! Hugs and Smiles...Pammy

the first surgery for recon was the free flap from the tummy to build up the breast. Since I had a partial, I still had the nipple, so that was not an issue. Phase two was getting an implant in the unaffected breast to make it look as full as the other, they also had to do a revision on the frankenboobie because there was an area that did not heal, and they did a revision on the ends of the tummy incision to make it look more symetrical. So it was much less invasive than the first, but still hit a few spots. I was put under because it was still a 5 hour surgery. Not an overnite stay though, kind of like a day at work. Get there at 7am, get home at 5pm.
Good luck with yours, will you have it done before Christmas?

Hey, Cat, hope you had a better day today. I have not been able to access the net much at all the last few days--Joe's desktop does ok, but my laptop is very iffy. Router problem, apparently. Plus, when I did get on FB, I wrote comments to you and to Margo and to Jackie and to American's veterans and to our veterinarian who married in Mexico- a truly beautiful bride, inside and out. None posted.

Turns out, I forgot to hit the Comment key. Really. All this time, I thought I had largely escaped chemo brain. On top of that, I lost access until today and tonight, with only intermittent connections even then. Neither my neurons nor my internet access has been working for me! Sheesh!

no wonder and here I thought you were ignoring me....(kidding), I did think about changing Frankenboobie to PicassoBoobie, the surgeon liked that one.
Feeling well enough to be up and doing things as opposed to "sit, stay", so I would say I am doing very well. Drain in one boob, and a compression garment for the "dog ears", and can't wait for both to be gone. I really appreciate everyone's good wishes

I bet your surgeon did like the comparison to Picasso. And you deserve boobs of art. Actually, if you had wanted to be, uh, enhanced, you could have asked for a Rubensboobie.

Glad you are feeling more Cat-like and getting about some. I'm looking forward to seeing that last stained glass window! In the meantime, keep taking care of yourself.

Your FB clueless friend,
Moops

Cat,
You always make me laugh. Picasso boob, I have such a picture in my head. And Moopy, the Rubensboobie. Now I am imagining all the different boobs of art. Oh my gosh, I can see the Salvador Dali boob (melting, drooping Oh that's both my boobs) and how about Jackson Pollock (lots of little boob dots). Okay, who can come up with other boobs of art?
LOL

I am so glad that you finally got it done! But, I am so sorry that you got sick. I got sick from too much Morphine on the last lumpectomy, I hope I don't on this one. Take care CAT!

Love, Jeanne ♥

Thank you for this post. I had bilateral mastectomy and had reconstruction with the DIEP free flap) procedure. I had some complications with the abdominal site healing, but it is all better now. I have an appointment with the surgeon tomorrow and I hope to be able to discuss scheduling the second recon. surgery to revise the abdominal scar, reduce the size of the breasts, and make them more symmetrical (left is bigger and has an odd depression in it). I was wondering what to expect with this surgery and recovery. I work in public school and I am thinking that Christmas Break or Spring Break may be good opportunities to do the surgery without missing much work. I tried to post a question related to this, but when I went back to chek for responses, my question had disappeard.

Thanks, seof

You sound as if you are on the same timeframe as me. My original surgery was March 2007, but it was only a partial mastectomy. Chemo from April through September, and Rads from November through December. They did tell me to wait at least a year after rads to have the reconstruction done. My first one was more invasive because they took the tummy and made it into my boob (Robert does ask me if I ate something that upset my tummy when I say the boob aches....). The tummy tuck was quite large and I was left with what they call "dog ears" at each end of the incision. That one was one week in the hospital, and two more weeks at home, then went back to work part time. This one, for the dog ears, implant and revision of the original reconstruction was a day visit. Home by 5pm, and I am heading to the doc tomorrow to get the drain out. I will be driving myself (as long as it is an automatic, I can do it), and hopefully will be back at work by the 23rd of November. He also filled in my port scar, there was a divot there that I could put my whole finger in. Was overdoing it a bit today with laundry, dishes, etc, but I can only tolerate the house getting to a certain side of messy before I go ballistic. Just had to take another pill to cut the pain, but if you figured on two weeks, I don't see why that wouldn't work.

And yes, Moops, flirting with the docs is fun! Remember I had doc handsome one and two? Well they both have wonderful senses of humor too.

Stef, go ahead, think of more, when I told him Picasso, he actually screwed his face up in what we would consider the artists rendering. The anastheseologist was telling me about my meds, one for me, two for him, one for me, two for him. How did I find all the comics in the Plastic Surgery industry?? So I showed them pictures of me from long ago, sitting on a waterfall in all my glory, and they loved it.

Claudia, hives? I know I break out in spots but always thought it was from the tape, I remember your bout with hives, guess I never put the two together, the pharmacist says it has a high probability for women to get sick on it, so why do they continue to use it?? only the shadow knows....

Well, thankfully the surgery went well! I am allergic to Keflex too; they gave it to me after the lumpectomy and I was a resident of Hive City for a few days! You poor thing...I hope you get the needed rest and that you have a wonderful Thanksgiving with lots to be thankful for!

Hugs,
Chen♥

~another one behind you. I am glad you are feeling more like yourself and not the "hurley girl" that keflex turns you into. Our bodies have been through so much. It is amazing that they bounce back.
Keep resting~ Melanie
