edited March 2014 in Breast Cancer #1
Hi, to everyone who will be reading this. Finish my treatment in December 2008. Just when i thought everything is okay. within 2 1/2 months March of 2009. it has recurr in the lymp nodes of my neck. Now i am on taxol/carbonplatin six cycles to see if the lump would disappear. At this momenti have to do over my blood test, count was low red/white cells as well as my urine. If my blood count don't come back up then i would have to get a blood transfusion. Doctor told me stage 4.

    Veronica, so sorry to hear
Veronica, so sorry to hear that your cancer has recurred. Please don't lose hope though. There are many women surviving and doing well with stage 4. Are your doctors excellent? I would also look into diet and eat only the healthiest, immune supportive foods available. I am sending you thoughts and prayers. Let us know how you're doing. Eil

    I absolutely 2nd Eil's post~
I absolutely 2nd Eil's post~ stage 4, although certainly frightening and of course disheartening, is not what it used to be~ LOTS of survivors who have not just quantity, but quality Life!

    Hugs,

    Hope
Veronica, I also am so sorry that you have had a recurrence. How disheartening that must be after finishing treatment. But I join others in assuring you there is hope. Women diagnosed with stage 4 bc are living longer and longer--quality lives, too. You will most likely receive responses from some of the women on this board who are living well with a stage 4 diagnosis.

I wish you the very best and hope that your blood counts will rise and that the taxol/carboplatin treatments lessen and destroy the tumor in your lymph nodes. Please let us know how you are doing.

    Hope & Inspiration
A long, gentle hug and some inspiration:

I've been told of a very prominent woman in my area that was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer...6 years ago. She is still active and working. Progress has brought us so far! Miracles happen every day.

    I've already prayed for you.

    Yes,Faith!
When we are at that point and our hands are tied, prayer can really give you peace that you can't find otherwise.I don't know what I would have done without my faith in God back then or today.

    Initially dx as stage IV
    Veronica,

When I was dx in Feb 09 at stage IV my first thought was my father who died 3 weeks after dx of pancreatic cancer. I thought it was a death sentence and just hoped to have time to tie up some loose ends. Seven treatments later I am now STABLE and planning a trip to vegas in November and to Florida in december. I had read life expectancy info of 18-24 months...but have since met on line and in person many many stage IV women who are 7 and 8 and 17 years beyond dx!!!

I may not know how many years I will be blessed with...but I'll be damned if I am going to waste a minute!! Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of tears of fear, anxiety, dispair, confusion, and feeling sorry for myself. But there have also been many many moments of love, humor, hope and discovery.

A site I go to with discussion threads of mostly stage IV women is http://community.breastcancer.org/forum/8. I did see a recent thread on triple negative status that might interest you. But don't give up on this one...these ladies are fun!!!

Hello Veronica, these gals are right Stage 4 does not mean you cannot go forward. You sound much like I did some 12 years ago. I had finished treatment of stage 2 cancer and was getting my hair back when a lump appeared on my chest (not breast) it had moved to my chest wall and my sentinel lymph node. I too was told I was a stage 4 with less then 30 percent chance of long term survival....I beat the odds and you can too. I had an additional 18 rounds of chemo and ten more weeks of rads to kill it and it stayed dormant for 9 years. I did get it again in 07 but it was not related to the original two and I am quite happy to tell you I am still here and active. I go camping, ride my quad, go on a cruise every few years, play with my grandkids like there is no tomorrow and live life to the fullest. I know you are scared and you have every right to be but it is beatable and with every year that we survive it becomes even more beatable. We are in your corner Veronica and you are in my prayers!!!!

    Hi Veronica,
    My name is

    Hi Veronica,
My name is Donna and I wanted you to know - from one stage 4 to another, that it's gonna be alright! I know how you felt when you heard the words stage 4. The first thing I want you to do is to throw out any statistic that tells you that you only have a 20% chance of living for 2-5 years. That statistic is not only old, it's wrong!!! I was diagnosed with stage 4 with mets in Aug. 2005. I am about to celebrate my 4th year with cancer. It first went after my vertebrae and is now in my right lung. Mets were stopped in my bones and I am only on tamoxifen for the lung mets. My tumor has not grown since I started the tamoxifen!!YEAH!! Your onc and you will find the right treatment plan for you, I just feel it.

I don't want you to feel that you have been given a death sentence with stage 4 because it is not!! I want you to know that you are not alone in this. The women and men on this board are wonderful and we will be with you every step of the way. I have my email address in my profile. Please feel free to use it any time. You are a strong woman and you can beat the beast.

    Love and gentle hugs,
    Donna
