I did the deed yesterday and shaved my head after watching most of my baby fine hair go down the bathtub drain and putting my face it in it in the pillow case. Actually bald is better than what I had...but seriously it was a big step for me but I am glad its done

    I know exactly how you feel. For me shaving and losing my hair was almost a relief.I agonized over it and when it happened all that agony went away and I could concentrate on other things.Today I was in the grocery store and a man complemented me on my hat. I said thank you and blurted out that I had cancer and that was the reason I was wearing a hat. After I said that I noticed that he was bald and he said "well at least your hair will come back, mine is gone forever". I felt better knowing that my hair will come back. So I guess we need to look at this as just a temporary situation although it still sucks. Love Surf.

    I know how you feel...mine is just coming back in. Now go without a headcovering or get yourself some beautiful scarves or hats. Either way, be proud of who you are, with hair or without!

    You got past the hard part. It gets easier to deal with. I know have the after chemo peach fuzz that is now looking like a buzz cut and no one has called me "sir" for weeks.

    Good luck, your hair will be back before you know it.

    It is a big step and not one we women take lightly, no matter what kind of hair we have! Many of us ( me included) get a very tender scalp while the chemo is killing not just cancer , but our hair follicles! It's rather the feeling of wearing a too tight rubberband in a ponytail for waaay too many hours. And, almost as soon as the head is shaved~ ahhhhhhh!

    So bless your heart for taking this brave step as you move ever closer to Life not just during, but especially AFTER cancer! And the good thing? It really does all come back~ and you are aware that anywhere ( yes, anywhere) on your body you have hair is going to fall out? My Dr never told me, and I didn't put the 2 and 2 together~ just so you know!

    I'm soooo happy for you that it's behind you. No more putting your face in it on your pillow case!!!

    I'm still so new to this, I'm not a wealth of knowledge but can tell you from experience...your first night on your pillowcase is going to feel a bit weird when you hit the bed! Also, for about a week, I would brush away imaginary bangs - which, in hindsight probably looked pretty ridiculous!

    And all of a sudden, it is out there in the open for everyone to see. Yes, it is a bit liberating though, isn't it? And Claudia is right, they never told me that I would lose all the hair on my body, nose hair, eyelashes, eyebrows, pubes, all gone. And boy did I wish some of it never came back....would help a bit with the grooming.
    I thought I would never have short hair either, but since it started coming back in, I have kept cutting it shorter, and am considering doing it again. I like it this way now. Enjoy the bald head while you can, I did miss it to an extent when it started coming back.

    THAT'S ONE SMALL STEP FOR MAN..........
    One giant leap for Womankind! Congratulations on doing the deed! I had my hairdresser do it, forgetting there were other people in the shop. I felt the tears running down my face and the stares of the other customers, looking at me sadly. When she didn't go all the way with the razor, my brother finished it off that night. It was the hardest thing to do, but I learned to wear the wigs, hats and scarves. Everyone said it could grow back black, blond, curly or thicker than my own. Ha hahahaha, its growing back thicker, but so far straight and silver. Looks like a bottle of Preference is in my future! You get used to it and when people stare, stare right back at them! I saw a great t-shirt that said "This is What Cancer Looks Like". If I were at the beginning instead at the end of treatments, I would have gotten it. Bald is beautiful and you are beautiful and strong! Keep smiling, it does help.

    I know it was quite emotional for me, and it took a couple months to accept it. but there are lots of cute wigs and hats. I finally accepted it and have not worn anything for the last couple months. and it will grow back. Mine has been growing in (along with all the unwanted chin hairs, legs having etc. That was one of the perks...grooming time was a few minutes.! I hope all goes well with your chemo.
