laugh, cry or........
Just had a biphasic CT scan on Thursday and picked up a copy of the report.
There is no evidence of recurrence in my liver or lungs altho they did note
a nodule there. Happy news! But then they drop me out of the plane with no
parachute with the news that there is "a tiny low density lesion noted in the inferior pole
of the left kidney" and "the left ovary is mildly enlarged" and are suggesting
a pelvic ultrasound to further investigate. Don't mention further tests for the
kidney. What??? Interesting that the liver resection removed the left lobe. Everything
is on the left side. My last scans were done
in April and it was all good news. Tomorrow I get a PET/CT scan and then see
the oncologist on Thursday. It's a strange feeling.....I feel good, I feel scared...
at the same time. Could be anything.....definitely feels like a roller coaster
ride to me. Appreciate any positive vibes you can send my way.

Hi Barbara I know how you feel my husband had his right lobe removed and one segment of the left lobe. He had finished chemo in May and he had a scan done last week which shows a node in the left lobe of his lung and something in his liver but not sure what it is. One doctor says it is a cyst another says it does not have the density of a cyst the node in the lung is too small to biopsy also his prostate is mildly enlarged so we are just waiting to do further scans. I hope for both you and my husband it is not a recurrence.

and lots of prayers your way. Lets try not to worry until there is something to worry about. I know I know, easier said then done. Take one day at a time and breathe. I feel the same way got my scans coming up in a week or so and I am scared too. Since my cancer came back so fast last time, I wonder what will the scans say this time. But all I can do is breathe, pray and hope for the best. Whatever it maybe or not, you will handle it and be strong, your a very strong person and will get through this.

I know how you feel cause I am going for my 3 month NED checkup and CEA blood test...So scared to find out but yet I need to know but yet I don't want to know..I like it the way it is...I guess we just need to do it and find out what the next step is...Good luck ...............JULIE0 -

I can definetly relate to the roller coaster ride... My hubby had a liver resection in April to remove 1 met to his liver, it was good with clear margins. He had his first PET/CT on Thursday morning, and saw the doc in the afternoon. He said the PET/CT didn't show anything wrong with his liver or any organs, however, one of his lymph nodes lit up near his kidney, he said it could be inflamation, or infection, he wasn't very concerned and said they will check it again in 3 mos, if it grows they will scope it. I am very worried about it, I am glad the scan showed everything else is ok, but now what the heck could this be??? I wonder if anyone else has had a lymph node show up on a PET that wasn't cancer?

Sorry that this news about the ovary/kidney is causing you distress. Here's my take -- for what it is worth. "Normal humans" (i.e. those not undergoing treatment or monitoring for cancer) do not have regular scans or any scans at all, ever. IF they did, who knows what "lumps and bumps" they would find. Our radiologists, bless them, HAVE to report anything which looks even slightly abnormal. However, many of those things are probably normal variations or totally benign. I had an MRI of my brain and a small lesion was discovered. BRAIN TUMOUR?!?! But no -- it is something benign, non-problematic, not growing. And who knows how many people may have such things.
I realize this may not be the case in your case -- but I sure hope it is! Meanwhile --- keep breathing in and out, walk in the light, feed the faith...

oncologist office and they say the last CEA was 1.3, prior
to that it was 1.6 so that is normal and i'm beginning to
wonder if these spots are not benign....like several of you
have said.....would be suprised what they can find when they
are looking!! Had my PET scan this morning and see oncologist
Thursday. It has really helped to get this info before I
go walking into her office....reduces the anxiety. the PET
will tell the rest. They scared me once before shortly after
my liver resection when the area lighted up but have since
decided that is postoperative stuff. as dorookie says,

Hooray for no evidence of recurrence in your liver or lungs!
I'm just behind you- I get my CT/PET scan done this Thursday & my appt. w/ my oncologist is Tuesday. You were given good advice- that who knows what would show up on the "normal person's" scans if they were given a scan?! There could be benign things that show up & infections are always possible, as is swelling following surgery also normal & swelling does show up as "uptake" on the PETS for a few months following surgery. Albeit, swelling following surgery is usually at the surgical location, but who knows- it maybe could cause swelling other places too.
I understand how you feel, though, I know I would be worrying too, just because it's hard not to! I'm thinking of you- especially since my own scan is happening soon too. I'll let you know how mine comes out- I'll be praying for you as I pray for myself too.

Saw the oncologist yesterday and she said I am doing well;
did suggest having pelvic ultrasound on the enlarged ovary
but with a CEA of 1.3 there is no concern that it is CA
at this point. She says as long as nothing is growing and
my CEA is good, she does not get concerned. Hate pelvic
ultrasounds; they are the ones where you have to drink
32 oz. water and then hold it in your bladder until they
get the test done.....miserable feeling...my liver resection
surgeon also says he is happy with scan results but thinks
that I should continue having biphasic CT scans not only of
my liver resection area but of the chest, abdomen and pelvic
because of the discoveries they made......they are watching
me like hawks and I am very happy for that. They will watch
all the spots including nodule on lung and spot in kidney
very closely for any changes. So I am not worrying; think
maybe getting hysterectomy or removing ovaries at this point
in my life is not a bad idea to consider. Am bringing my
gynecologist in on this one as well and get her opinion.
