You are not alone if that helps. I scheudled my party for Fridays. Every other week I mimic what you described. Even taking home Jr. for the weekend.
It does become smewhat oppresive knowing what we know. I can't wait to be done. I just hope I will be done one day soon. The words "maintenance chemo" scare the hell out of me.

Chemo Party Has Already Started
I started my chemo party yesterday, had it today (4 more hours) and get the 22 hour pump disconnected tomorrow. You are not alone Eric. Remember we had several members, including Phil, joining us two weeks ago.
It sure is nice waking up to night sweats, love it, because I'm always cold. Love the way I can't eat much anymore, since I really can't afford to loose anymore weight but it just wants to take more away, love that I feel so tired I get to sleep whenever I want, and also love the fact that I can wear my mittens in June because I miss the blasted cold of Michigan winters and that wonderful feeling in my throat when it closes up like the feeling of a pin cushion when I try and drink something more than room temperature. Awesome is my journey and I know your's it too. We have so much to look forward to as we move forward to this healing. Keep up your great spirit
Yeah Phil take a few puffs for me too.

I was wondering where you`ve been. I thought you dropped off the board. We are in similar situations except I have been fortunate enough to not experience any severe reactions with the erbitux rash. I definitely have it though. When they tell you that you will be getting chemo maintenance for the rest of your life it is definitely scary as hell. Hopefully we will both be NED one day, beat this thing completely, and shock the crap out of our oncologists or at the very least get a long chemo break.

...maintenance chemo?? isn't it just something you do to keep maintaining the cancer to stay at bay? I think my doctor has plans for me for something like that as well, I am just not sure what that entails.

I do not know what chemo maintenance entails because I haven`t done it yet. I only know my oncologist said I will be on some form of chemo for the rest of my life. I`m guessing if everything works out well which I am sure it will for all of us on this board that we will be on a lighter less frequent form of treatment after our initial treatments. If we become ned I assume it will buy us more time in between, but I am not a doctor and it is merely conjecture coming from me. Good question to ask the Doc though. Of course, there is always the possibility of cure in which case we will probably just be monitored very closely and have it hanging over our heads for years. }:.}

Today is day 4 of 5. But you know what? It is my LAST chemo party week, and on Friday they are throwing me a 'real' party in the chemo lab! I don't know what that means, but the nurses have been dropping hints all week...something about singing and dancing. I am taking brownies just in case.
My last round seems to be better than last month. Maybe it's because I know I can beat this...

Yes, you can do this, and I can too, well, I can try, the more I do it, the sicker I"m getting abit, but not too bad, I bought a couple cute hats to go on my thinning head at Icing's yesterday at the mall, and love them, even my kids love it, no wigs, they said the hats look much more better, but I know you can beat this too, you are in my thoughts and prayers.
I guess if I have to go maintenance therapy for life, maybe it won't be too bad, as long as it keeps me here with my kids!

Vicki - Sounds like your last test must have turned out pretty great. A success party is waiting in the wings. Unless they are throwing you a going away party in which case you must have been a real pain in the butt because they seem awfully happy about it. }:.}

Yes, I was declared NED a couple of weeks ago. And Door # 2 (pain in the butt) is appropriate also! I have a top-notch team and they are always there for me. I can't wait until tomorrow...

Hey guys hang tight it really does get better...I did 12 rounds of chemo and am NED for 2 months now.....It is like a new life.....It is worth looking forward to..Just keep going towards that day it will come!!!!! I don't know about maintenance..but take it one treatment at a time...Rest when you need to that is real important and let others help.....Keep coming here to discuss whatever you need to it helps to get and give advice...Good luck0 -

Hi I've been on maintenance chemo since Dec 08 and it's a cake compared to the folfiri I had the previous 6 months. I have energy and I don't have to carry Jr with be to bed. I'm on Xeloda with Avastin. I just pray it continues to keep me in NED> take care

Julie - Thanks for the advise. Sometimes it is hard to let people help me even though they are willing because I feel like I`m imposing. I need to be reminded to let them help. It gives them and me a blessing.

I'm having a chemo party right now, sitting here writing to you all in my new king size bed, made up with 600 hundred count sheets, feels wondeful.........eating the juicest plums that I have ever tasted, strange that I can even taste them, then I am going to go juice some apricots, apples, oranges and kiwi and pretend that it's is a cold smoothie with a shot of rum, then I am going to go to bed to start the night sweats before my buddy and I have to head to work at 6 am. I know it's too late late for juicing....but i didn't get home until 7 pm, the nurse at the center made a mistake, she thougt she started the drip but no she had saline running and no folfox, so one hour and a half later, I look up and no drip! The nurse was so sorry, but I told her not to worry, things get overlooked....but why me :-0

Jr. is starting to take his toll on me. Thank God I get him off in a few hours. That little toxic leech. Can`t blame him. He is only doing his job but the day they take him off and the day after are my two worst days. I am probably a walking biohazard by now.

the day it got unhooked and the next day were the worst - even worse than spending a night with Jose (Cuervo). I ended my party about a month ago, can't say I miss it! My port comes out on the 30th...looking forward to that! Sure wish my hands would stop hurting tho.
Congrats Vicki! My team brought me a giant cupcake on the last day.0
