Glad you are feelong good today Mimi. I was just thinking of you this morning.
I had my 4th infusion on Feb 12...don't know how that happened because ours were very close.Don't have the 5th until March 10th and a port installed on March 9th.
I have found the Neulasta shots no longer give me any problems, so hope that is the same for you.
Take it easy today and enjoy that warm bath and hopefully the movies are good ones!!0 -

Good monday morning!
I just had my 3rd infusion 5 days ago..didn't seem as easy as the other two. I have a sore throat and am gargling with salt and baking soda. a couple sores on my lip i'm putting carmex on and low-grade nausea. I'm really tired but remember i was last time also in the first week. I was depressed this weekend. I was going to go over to work for awhile but couldn't make myself.
I have never got the neulasta shot. They told me they didn't give it if your labs are ok and so far so good. my lymphodemia is a little better though.
How do you schedule your work..Mimi and Moopy? do you take the first week or a few days off? I just hope i get my energy back real soon. and do you experience more depression in the first week as i do?. I just don't know where my optimism went to in this last week but know i have to get it back!!

Jackie, I am sorry that this one is not going as well. It sounds like you are experiencing what I did with my second infusion. I did have terrible depression--thinking what is the point when my onc. said the cancer I had is at high risk of recurrence (triple negative, so no hormones for me) and also sore throat and a lip sore. For the depression, my primary doc doubled my dose of Zoloft to the therapeutic dose for depression instead of anxiety. And the postings here helped me so much. Mimi especially as been a godsend and a comfort with my recurrence fears. She has so much courage to face the beast and then comes back to share her knowledge. All this has helped with the depression, along with all the non-medical things we know to do for ourselves.
For the sore throat/mouth sore, I continue to gargle like you do. I have heard some here mention Magic Mouthwash, but it is a prescription, I believe. My doc did not prescribe it. He gave me an antibiotic and acyclovir for the mouth sore. All that worked, though I will be taking a lowe dose of acyclovir to keep sores away.
As for work, I just started back last week, the third week. I am scheduled to work 2 days per week, and my manager has been wonderful about scheduling the first two days after the infusion day on the last 2 days of that workweek. So I have as many days as possible to get past infusion. Now hoping the week of lowest immunity will be ok (days 7-14). And that I can work the two days required w no problems.
But, Jackie, it is wonderful that you have not had to take Nulasta! That is such a good thing,that your immune system is strong enough to avoid the shot. That is a good sign, that you are stronger than you think. (Actually, I think my morning Nulasta shot is beginning to kick in, so I am going to sign off for awhile. I hope at least some of this helps and that you feel better. Good news also about the lymphodema improving. Good for you that you got something done.0 -

I actually had nothing done yet still waiting for them to call or get SOMETHING together. What a frustration that has been. It is just getting better on its own, i do elevate it quite a bit. I guess i'm hoping it will miracuously heal! lol.
I am going to ask the DR. to up my dosage on my celexa or recommend another one. Because GEEZZZ there should be no reason for my depression. LOL.
I also (especially when depressed) sometimes dwell on the thought of reoccurance after we finally get through this..it seems to be more than i could take at times..even worrying about it wipes me out!! I know the things i have to do to get my mind of these negative thoughts but this demon invading my thoughts is sneaky..
Sorry did not mean to sound so negative. I know i should be thankful for so many things and one of them being i don't need the Nulasta shot as yet. I am glad you are feeling well and that your work place is good with your scheduling. I also have that to be thankful for.

Sausage, Please let us know how you are doing. 501 that is high, I am also diabetic, I know when you have any type of infection it raises your blood sugar. I also found my blood sugar ran much higher than normal the first few days after chemo. It was the steriods that caused it to go up. I hope eveything will be ok with you . You are right 501 was a little scary! I too find my blood sugars very hard to regulate when on the steroids. They have recently given me the instant insulin(Novolog) to use only when on the steroids before, during and after chemo..I used that yesterday and it brought it dowm immediately. Spent the afternoon and evening in Emergency Room..but at least they let me come home!!! You were right the high blood sugars were because of an infection.0 -

I had a hard time as well, Jackie. I think for some people the effects accumulate somewhat. It is so hard to keep your spirits up when you feel physically ill and uncomfortable, isn't it? During the third one, I felt like I was crawling out of a dark tunnel. But the feelings eventually lifted and I recovered. You will, too. I know it is so hard. I am lucky with work -- they are very flexible. I usually take off the Friday of my infusion, plus Monday and Tuesday. Then I work at home Wednesday through Friday and return full time to the office on weeks 2 and 3. So far, I have been able to completely recover each time. But, man this isn't easy. Are you feeling better today, Jackie? You are crawling out into the light, I just know it.

Have you tried Caphosol for mouth sores? It is a preventative gargle that is tasteless. I use it every night and have not had mouth sores since my first infusion (knock on wood).
As for pain with Neulasta, my doctor recommended the allergy medication Claritin the night before the shot. It did seem to have helped this time. I still had aches and pains but they were not as awful as last time. Moopy we have pain because our bone marrow is very strong. Cold comfort, I know!
