Just for fun, I thought I'd start a thread on Valentine's Day since it's tomorrow. Love to hear about people's plans, if any. Are you doing the whole dinner thing, staying in for a cozy movie, renting a cabin in the mountains, an anti-Valentine's day party with girlfriends, nothing? We don't have reservations yet, but the husband and I are planning a nice dinner out. We know it's an overpriced racket, but I like to celebrate all occasions now, and I love food. So...what is everyone doing or not doing?

    Unusual plans
I had a wonderful invitation last night for Valentine's Day. One of the young women that I worked with while she was in high school and attending our church is now playing basketball at a local college. The members of the girl's team have grown their hair and are having it cut to donate for wigs at the half-time of the boy's game. They are each supposed to choose someone "special" to cut their hair and my young friend chose me! So my husband and I will be going to a basketball game so that I can participate in that event. I am so honored! I will wear my own wig with pride.

How great is that. What a great group of young ladies and being chosen to cut the hair is such an honor. I hope everyone who has to ever wear a wig could know that somewhere someone cut their hair to make them possible. I know some people sell their hair but isn't it wonderful to know that so many people are willing to do this for others. I knew a teen in our band program who had beautiful waist length hair and she donated a huge length of it. She was only going to cut it to her shoulders but when they mentioned that if she went to her ears they could do more, she was onboard. She said it was just hair and would grow back. And it did. I think it grew back more beautiful than before because her heart was in every strand.
For Valentine's Day, hubby and I are going out to fix a special dinner and then watch a good movie. Just relaxing at home. I know he will get me a mushy card and I will cry because even after 34 years together he truly means it. And I will get him a card, sometimes mushy, sometimes humor because he puts up with so much from me and never (well rarely) complains. He really is my heart. I found a true gem in him.

Mimi, it is good to see you
Mimi, it is good to see you back on the boards again. I always enjoy reading your posts, and the helpful information you always bring back from your oncology visits. I don't post much, but do keep up with everyone on a daily basis. Good to hear from you again. This Valentine's Day will mark a milestone in my marriage, as we will celebrate 25 years together on the 18th of February. Our plans are to string the two celebrations together, and start on Saturday with dinner and a movie, and then a trip to Shrevesport LA for a couple of days of eating, gambling, and enjoying each other's company. I must say I have the greatest husband, and this past year has been as tough on him as it has been on me. He has been my support, my friend, my housekeeper, and my cook..lol. Never a complaint, and never letting on that he minded one bit being there for me. We have weathered 25 years together, and look forward to 25 more. I hope everyone has a wonderful Valentine's Day..Hugs to all

    How wonderful
Judy, congratulations on your anniversary! He sounds like a wonderful man and so supportive. You reminded me how great my husband has been as well. All the focus in on us, but our partners are often in the background, holding us up and making things so much easier. I don't know what I would have done without my own husband listening to my tearful rants about cancer and how unfair everything is. And then cooking dinner and giving me a massage. It can't be easy on them. I wish you a wonderful dinner and movie tomorrow evening and great vacation with your man. I will be thinking of you and all the wonderful caregivers out there tomorrow. We love them all.

    not a thing
We don't celebrate greeting card holidays so we probably won't do anything special. My husband will be busy working Saturday anyway. Why not celebrate every day and not just occasions? Makes for a good excuse to eat chocolates though.

    Valentines Day
I love valentines day. I get to tell everyone i love.. how much. I always get my kids chocolate and cards for sure. My husband will be delighted with KY yours and mine!!lol!

I plan to go over to the hospital where i work and have a valentines party for the residents there. I have little valentines for all of them and i know i will be uplifted to spend some time with them tomorrow. When your stuck in a Hosp./Nursing home these little things mean so much.

My hubby has asked me out for a supper date. I intend on going as i Love to eat also. This will mean alot to him since we haven't been out for awhile.(besides McDonalds which i love too but have my heart set on shrimp. I hope i can last that long in my wig it itches so much. Valentines day is a big one for my Bob since he is not very verbal but loves showing me how much he loves me..as he has done through this tough time by going with me to every single apt. i have to go to. cooking, cleaning..and taking care of me when i am to tired. He does say alot with very few words.

I don't know what i would do without all of the people i love in my life. I truly have been blessed. I wish all of you a happy Valentines day surrounded by those you love and by God's love.
Love to all my pink sisters

I think we are staying in
I think we are staying in tomorrow. It gets way to crazy on Valentine's day, so I'll cook something special and then watch a movie with hubby and the kids. Even though we're married 29 years, every day seems like Valentine's day to me. I have a wonderful husband who has probably suffered just as much as me and always lets me know how appreciated I am. I wish all my sisters and brothers a wonderful Valentine's Day. Hugs, Lili

    Valentines ....
My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary today ... Feb 13th ... Friday the 13th! Lunch and an appoint to meet my radiologist! Pretty funny!

Many years ago we planned to be married on February 14, but our minister and his wife, who were good friends, were going out of town on the 14th, so we had a simple wedding on the 13th! Dinner with the minister and his wife at a marvelous Italian restaruant ... drank lots of wine, and Dale (the minister) signed our marriage license and we called it good! No muss no fuss!

Tomorrow, Valentine's Day, we are going to hear a friend perform/sing at the local brewery.

Again, nothing fancy. Just lots of hugging!

Here's wishing you, and everyone, a happy Valentine's Day!

    Love is in the air***
Ahh! So is the smell of moms cooking. I have prepared a valentines dinner for many years. With 4 kids it was just easier, less expensive and really fun. I place a special valentine treat or gift at each place setting. I love to love on my honey and kiddo's. They are older (18-26), one is married--the others are not "attatched" right now and focusing on school and careers. It is a day to express love, and if you don't have a "sweetheart" you might feel left out of the fun....so I like to make sure my kids are not forgotten. Soon St. Patty's day is coming and time for "green eggs (scrambled) and ham!!"
    Happy Valentines Day--All.

    Valentine's Day
What a great idea, Mimi. I have enjoyed reading everyone's posts. I have gotten surprises this Valentine's! Yesterday I found a dozen pink and yellow and orange roses on my front door, from my sweet nephew Marc. He has been there for me every step of the way, and I am so proud of the young man he has become. Joe and I will be staying at home this evening with our pups. I am going to pamper Joe with his favorite back and foot massages. My sister is coming to visit for a few days tomorrow, and that is a gift of love Joe and I are both looking forward to.

I can't say it any better than dear Jackie did--I wish all of you a wonderful day filled with love.

    hooray for our caregivers!
hooray for our caregivers! as you said caregivers are often ovelooked. they are the glue that keeps everything on point and deserve a medal. he devoted all of his extra time to make my life easier and keep me comfortable. he has helped me even more since my treatment has finished. trying to keep the mood swings, my expectations, etc in check. he has been going to a support group for caregivers all along. it has been so helpful for him to have other caregivers to talk with each week. we are both going to see a therapist and going to our support groups. he had a biopsy last week on his prostate after his PSA spiking at 18. the doc thought that he had cancer but his tests were all negative. while we were waiting for the results, well over a week, i experienced many of the same feelings that he had during my breast cancer. you know, what if he really did have cancer how were we going to do it since we are still processing my cancer. i considered it a lesson since i have never been a caregiver for someone for any length of time. you know how things happen for a reason and usually resolve themselves .so we are very thankful and plan to have a delicious dinner in front of our fireplace. we are still on the journey but ever so thankful that he had a negative diagnosis. have a nice day and be grateful. love, peggy
