I also saw the stoma nurse yesterday and she asked me about irrigation. I don't know if I am ready yet. Does anyone irrigate, is it time consuming, is it gross, and do you do it daily or every other day. If you don't want to answer here, you can email me through this site. I appreciate your in put.

Hi Moe,
Just wanted to peep in since there all the irrigators out there seem to be AWOL. I don't have a colostomy, but the ileoostmoy. I was just on Shaz's ostomy site today and noticed a couple articles about irrigation. I'm sure you know about Shaz's site but just wanted to make sure.
Someone posted a link to a Canadian online newsltter for ostomates. There was a picture of a guy Triathelete, who just had a little cover over his stoma. Apparently he irrigates daily which eliminated needing a pouch. Wow .... seemed pretty cool. I empty my ileosotmy 6 or 7 times a day!
Good Luck

I irrigate. It is not very time-consuming, it is not particularly gross. I do it daily but some do every other day. I LOVE IT! -- Has given me a much more positive view of colostomy. Feel free to email me -- I'd be happy to discuss any questions you have.0
