    Hi Prayerfully,

I see no one has responed to your message. I think you are talking about first line chemo?? I had a mixture of Taxol and Carboplatin for 9 treatments and then 12 Taxol treatments as an extra measure of security. They call it maintenance therapy. Wish I could help you more. Hope one of the others who read messages on this board can offer you better info.

    Hello, Prayerfully,
I may not be much help, I'll be getting my 1st course on Jan 6th (combo carboplatin & Taxol). However, I have been doing some reading. The one bit of info that sticks out in my mind is that usually chemo is given in multple agents so that your body doesn't get used to one med and develop a kind of immunity to it. You may want to ask your doctor about this to either confirm or deny this. Also, ask why you are getting only one agent instead of a combination treatment. Hope you get the answers you need. Take good care.

Fist I am wondering why you are getting carbo alone. Most everyone I have ever talked to gets a combination. I had 23 courses of carbo/taxol then tried 1 carbo alone but had a reaction because of so many before. Now I will say during the 23 treatments I rarely had a problem with either but do you know why the carbo alone?

They were suggesting carbo alone because I had a bad reaction to taxol and was afraid to try it again. Everyone has been telling me to give it another try. They say if it is run slowly it may not cause reaction.

I understand about the Taxol reaction and doubt they would give it to you again. I tried carbo alone and just near the end of treatment started getting chills and feeling a little funny, the nurses said it was a reaction and gave me steriods and benedryl. Dr. said he would NOT give it to me again but that was because I had had it 23 other times with the Taxol. If you take steriods with it you will probably be fine.
I would be afraid about the taxol too but I would have a talk with the Dr. about that, it is known to be a very effective drug for our cancer so it's worth discussing. My e-mail is pksold@earthlink.net if you want to keep in touch.
