I just finished A/C treatments and am on the verge of beginning taxol this week. My taxol treatments will be done once every 3 weeks for 4 treatments. I've read of many who do the taxol weekly. Does anyone know why there is the difference in protocol of giving taxol?

My treatments are being given on the same schedule as yours. The protocol depends on factors such as whether the chemo is being given pre-op to shrink the tumor or post-op for treatment following surgery as well as the results obtained from examination of tissue by Pathology. Hope that helps some.

Thanks for the info. My treatments are post operative. I also had 7 nodes test positive along with being her2neu positive. I'm taking herceptin for a year as a part of a clinical trial.

This cancer journey is one wild ride! I'm just hoping the ride ends soon!

Hi, sounds like I'm in a very similar study as you are with herceptin for pos. her2. Difference is I am one taking taxol weekly (x 12) with the herceptin. Your guess is as good as mine as to why the difference, just a slightly different study I imagine. I do know when your in a clinical trial, they decide, our dr's just follow the protocol set by the the study. Good luck, and God Bless, Judy
By the way, I found taxol MUCH easier to take than a/c, hope it's the same for you!

    HI There,
I took Taxol just as you and my doctor told me that it was really my choice..that with the weekly taxol you are less likely to get as severe side effects. I did get Neuropathy but..I guess it could of been worse than it was.

I have been on the accelerated schedule that was discussed at the conference last November. I had 4 treatments of A/C and then 4 treatments for taxol at 2 week intervals. They also put me on neugogen immediately to manage my blood counts. It gets the whole thing done faster. I only stayed in the hospital for fever and low white cell count once after the first treatement. Other than that, the counts have been low but manageable. The stats with this treatment are better. I have stage 3, lobular cancer with 6 pos. nodes.

    Hi Heavenlee,
I was on Taxotere from Feb until June, but had complete loss of fingernails, so I'm now on Taxol weekly x 12. Had to stop after 9 treatments because I'm experiencing very severe and extreme swelling in both feet and ankles. Have had to go to larger shoe size, which is still uncomfortable. My ankles hurt, and naturally there is the neuropathy too, which is so uncomortable. Please let me know if you have any idea what's going on with the swollen ankles and feet. Also, after I've been off my feet for a while, the entire leg muscles feel as though they have shortened by a few inches--I know this sounds weird, but it's true. Can you tell me anything; thanks so much.
