Colonoscopy Prep after Partial Nephrectomy
I’m scheduled for a colonoscopy next week and I’m wondering if one type of prep is better for the kidney than another. I had a partial nephrectomy in March and I am really not looking forward to having to take in all those harsh chemicals with the prep. I did Moviprep last time and the PA mentioned there is also Prepopik but I don’t know which would be better for my poor abused kidney. Any ideas, advice, suggestions, etc? Thank you in advance!

I have had at least 3 Colonoscopys since my neph, but starting with a few years out. Unless necessary you shoukd see if you can wait a few more months before this disruptive prep.

I had a colonoscopy about 2 weeks before my partial neph and used Prepopik. It is by far the best colonoscopy prep I've done. It is harder on the kidneys though. My surgeon cleared me to use it. My kidney function was good so it was okay To use. Can't recommend it enough as long as it is safe for you personally.

Iceman, I think she wants to do it now because my hemoglobin dropped to 6.7 (it's since gone up) and she's worried about bleeding. I'm not too crazy about having it done this soon either. Avdoty, thank you; I thought it'd be an easier prep too since there's so little to drink but worried about its effect on kidney. I lost about 20 percent of my kidney so not sure it's a good prep for me.
