carbo/taxotere without port?
Anyone go through chemo without a port? My mom's cardiologist wont let her stop taking her plavix to have the port put in. Surgeon wont put it in if her bloodwork shows something - mom talked to the dr, and she couldn't remember exactly what they would be looking for. So, blood work tomorrw, then decision on whether port…

METHOTREXATE
Not a cancer question, but an RA questions - rheumatoid arthritis. Our daughter was recently diagnosed with severe RA. We started her on an exercise program, supplements, dietary changes, etc., etc. The only thing left at this point (medically, anyway), is to get her off the steroids. And according to her doctor (very…

Native American Lakota Healing Prayer
Sharing a poem that was given to me by a family member while I was very sick. My grandfather was a Lakota (born on the reservation in South Dakota). I found this very comforting. ************************************************************** Our Father, the Sky, hear us and make us strong. Our Mother, the Earth, hear us…

Your thoughts on taking estrogen ?
Hey everybody, Sorry if this topic has been discussed before but I was wondering if anyone out there has any experience/thoughts about taking estrogen to relieve hot flashes/night sweats. Prior to my hysterectomy in August 2009 I was still menstruating. So of course the surgery put me immediately in menopause. My…

My soulful reflection for the day
I had my 3rd maintenance dose of Taxol this week. I complained to my doctor that I get soooooo tired, so easily. I can sleep the clock around, some days (most days). He said, "Well, your blood work looks good, so it's not that. Its probably because we're poisoning you." Chemo humor, I guess. I happened to sit next to a…

Update
Well everyone, we saw the oncologist yesterday, and my mom did ask the right questions I think, and the doctor handled them really well. First of all, my mom asked what would happen if she chose not to have chemo. The doctor explained that there was some cancer left behind, and that while it would not grow overnight, that…

Avastin
Hello to my favorite ladies! I haven't updated lately, so thought I would check in. I just had another PET/CT to see if I qualify for avastin. I have been on doxil since September, and then doxil/carbo for 3 cycles, and it is holding the cancer at bay but not putting me into remission. Been doing a lot of processing about…

Nervous - again
First, I would like thank everyone who helped to keep me a little calmer when I had questions about taking Avastin. Now, I have another worry. I took a normal mammogram and was told I have to take another because my breast are "dense". Is this something that I should worry about? I think every time I hear of a change, even…

Thanks, ladies....and yay me
I had chemo today and asked the folks behind the desk if I could provide a box/basket for head covers, take one-leave one kind of thing. They said, "Yes." So before next month, I will put together something attractive to hold them and drop it off with a starter set of hats and scarves I can not use. (Except for the red…

Too scared to be happy
I just wondered if anyone ever felt the anti-climax I am feeling after receiving positve news from the hospital. My oncologist (himself) phoned me the other day to offer good news that my CT scan was positive and there is No Evidence of Disease on any of my major oragns or lymph nodes. This is a really positive outcome for…

What the H to eat???
Hi Ladies, I was surfing around and saw a new study on BPA in canned food. One of the highest ever recorded levels was in one I keep in my pantry all the time. With pesticides, mercury, BPA, etc., etc. what is safe to eat? I'm not even sure organic is worth the money! And, can I eat outdoor grilled food? I notice now that…

My mom is one year into her stage 4 primary peritoneal cancer. She has had a recurrence and has had 2 chest drains since starting doxil. Has anyone had a permanent drain "installed" and how has that gone? We are wondering if that is next for her. Wishing all of you a good day.

results of yesterday's CT/PET & CA125
Well, not the news I wanted but it could have been much worse. My CA125 went up from 34.6 to 53.9, and 2 of the 3 lymph nodes that had disappeared on my last CT/PET lit up again. (sigh) The news on my scan is unofficial, but here's what I learned: The para-aortic lymph node that lit up is really tiny and wasn't even…
