CT Scan today
Hey Semicolons, In a few hours I am going in for my annual CT scan (I was diagnosed stage III on May 9, 2005)...I just hate scan time...don't you? Last year they found spots on my lungs, but there was a happy ending...They did lung surgery to remove the nodules and discovered they were totally benign Sarcoids(Sounds like…

Contrast or No Contrast
I am allergic to the IV Contrast that give you for CT Scans and had to be pre-medicated with Predinsone. It is called the 13-Hour prep. 45mg 12 hours before appt, 7 hours, 1 hour and then 2 Bendadryl 25mg 1 hour before. I would still break out with 1 hive on my right check of my face each time. So when I went for my 6…

Why not antioxidant rich foods during chemo treatment??
Hi, Valerie again. Recently diagnosed with stage III colon cancer. Had surgery and about to begin chemo. I was told by an encologist nurse not to have too much food containing antioxidants during chemo because it would work against treatment. Things such as berries, broccoli, etc. Has anyone else been told this?

Dairy and Cancer
Just a quick search on the computer and you can find studies that support the fact that milk consumption is linked to reduced incidence of cancer....don't just take one study and assume it is fact. I'm not sure of the answers, but I don't think we should all give up dairy foods based upon one report, when there are others…

Hi All, I guess the reason I need to know about sugar is I have a hugh sweet tooth and a fast metabolism so I dont have to worry about weight gain. Does sugar cause colorectal cancer????? My oncologist told me not to worry about sugar because it occurs naturally in our bodies and there is no basis for concern. But I keep…

Mothers
In celebration of Mother's Day I thought it would be nice to read the history of how this became a national holiday in the US. HISOTRY: In the United States, Mother's Day experienced a series of false starts before eventually transitioning into the "Hallmark" holiday that we celebrate today. In 1858, Anna Reeves Jarvis was…

Five weeks are done!!
Finally....my five weeks of radiation and 5fu are done! That seemed like forever. I hope this did something to shrink the tumor. I go to see my surgeon on Thursday to see what my next step is, whether it's a colonoscopy or CT scan and then I find out when surgery is. How soon can they do a colonoscopy after radiation? I…

Frustrated...
I need to vent a little. I have been having pain/discomfort for almost 3 months now on my left side. I had a colonoscopy in Feb. which was fine for the most part. They found a couple of polyps, one with high grade dysplasia. Ever since that colonoscopy I have been having at the least discomfort. At one point I was in the…

Procedure?
I asked my brother to tell me this story 4 times already - but it's not making a heck of a lot of sense to me. My brother took our father to an urban hospital today to have those hemorrhoids-from-hell taken care off. (Our father was diagnosed stage 4 last August, started a chemo study drug in Sep, wound up in the ICU with…

Lawsuit?
My husband (39 years old) was diagnosed with stage 4 July 07. In 2004 he had hemeroids and what our family doctor called a "cyst" on his rectum. At the time I told him to ask her for a colonoscopy. She told him it wasn't necessary. This whole living hell was entirely preventable. I am considering a malpractice lawsuit…

Awesome night!
My Relay for Life team had a talent show last night to raise money. I'm so excited! We raised over $1100!!! That puts us over our team goal of $2500!!! Relay's a week from Friday, so I'm thrilled. I stepped way out of my comfort zone and sang a solo that I dedicated to all cancer survivors. I especially dedicated it to my…
