discourage mestectomy?????
Has anyone ever been discouraged from having a masectomy? The docs say we are a prime candidate for a lumpectomy and want us to do so. But after seeing a few docs and talking with some beautiful survivors of both procedures we decided to have a masectomy. So they want us to do chemo first to shrink the tumor first. Any…

lumpectomy with radiation
I read in the book my doctor gave me that radiation is typically 5 days a week for 6 to 7 weeks. "I think" I recall my doctor saying it will be once per week following recovery from my lumpectomy. I will call him tomorrow for clarity, but I am scared of this.

I was told I would only be there for 45mins. so I didn't make other arrangements to pick up my daughter from school. My appt was at 1:00 so I figured I…

I wish you all could have been on the Island with me~
I was gone for a few days, camping and enjoying a yearly reunion with 200 friends/family/Tribal members. As some of you know, Reggie and his fellow Native paddlers were honoring their ancestors and the way of life of their Tribe with the annual ocean voyage to the Island that is their original homeland. We were blessed…

The coldest igloo
There were three Eskimos in Alaska, and one time while they were at their local bar, they got to talking about how cold it was outside, and how cold their igloos were. They could agree on everything but whose igloo was the coldest, so they decided to determine who, indeed, had the coldest igloo. They went to the first…

What about Femara
Tomorrow I will have the last of 35 radiation treatments. My onc wants me to go on Femara. Has anyone had experience with this? I'm just so tired of being tired. I have already done the adria/cyclo and taxol chemo and have been at this since my dianosis in May of 2008. Are there any side effects??

Port coming up...
I'm going in tomorrow for a port insert. In a way, I am relieved it's finally here and I can move on with the next phase, chemo. On the other hand, I'm a little scared because I know what purpose it will serve. Can't dwell on that tidbit, have to move on. Will fill you in on chemo. Start up date for chemo is still pending.…

going away party for my right breast (and benefit)
If anyone lives in San Diego or surrounds - please join me Sunday evening at Jayne's Gastropub. I'm having my surgery (single mastectomy with immediate reconstruction - tissue expander - for DCIS) on the 24th so I figured...plan a party? The proactive, practical side of me uses this as a coping mechanism...it's working to…

Double Mastectomy w/Tummy Tuck
I was diagnosed mid-August with breast cancer on the left, with A typical cells on the right. From the very first day I wanted to have the bilateral-mastectomy. I have read several stories of bilat mast w/tummy tuck. And most have been negative. Even the doctors are telling me that it is much more painful and a longer…

Question about number of chemos
I just got home from my fifth chemo treatment of cytoxin/Taxotere. At the first meeting with my oncologist, he had told me that I had to have at least four treatments but he would like me to have six if I could take them. I am stage IIb - tumor size was 4 cent. and I had one lymph node involved. I had a mastectomy in May…
