Another Newbie
Hello - today is my first day to join this discussion group. I am hoping to make new friends, find folks I can talk to about what is happening in my life and learn about what all is going on. I think I have been in denial since I was diagnosed, and haven't talked about it much with anyone except my husband. I am a 68-year…

Tram flap recovery
I had a bilateral mastectomy with reconstructive surgery-tram flap. However, I am very discouraged about the "tummy tuck", as my stomach is now larger, with no waist, and I can't fit into any of my pants, except for those with an elastic waistband. It has been 12 weeks since the surgery, and I can't get much of an answer…

Newbie here - How to tell young children
Can anyone give me some advice about how to talk to my young daughters about this? I was just diagnosed with Stage I invasive ductal breast cancer. My 10 year old knows something is up. Our good friend went through chemo for this last year and now my daughter is scared that I am going to lose my hair. Any advice? As for…

How long to recover from total lymph node removal?
I'm about to have ALL (yes, ALL) the lymph nodes under my right arm removed, and I have a question about how long it takes, on average, to regain sufficient use of your arm to go back to work. I am a computer analyst and I use a computer keyboard all day (both hands - I'm a touch typist). During the surgical consult, my…

My Good 'Ol Dog
On a hot summer day, a country bumpkin came into town with his dog. He tied the dog under the shade of a tree and went into the bar for a cold beer. About 20 minutes later a policeman came into the bar and asked who owned the dog tied under the tree. The bumpkin said that it was his. The policeman said, "Your dog seems to…

questions
Just got back from the 4 hour drive to meet with "my surgeon". No one closer does many reconstructions - removes them extremely well I understand, but not much experience with putting them back. Surgeon was kind, confident and caring and we like him a lot. However, he doesn't really agree with my idea of a double…

Day 29 of Pammy's Rads
Whew!! First day of Boosters. It was rather interesting. I did not realize they were going to lay a wet washcloth over me (glad it was warm!) so that there is better "conduction" in the treatment. I somehow got this picture in my head of electricity & water not mixing and getting "zapped" literally, that I think my heart…

Anti Cancer A New Way of Life
Has anyone read this book? I think I saw this mentioned in one of the posts. I found this book to be truly eye opening about how the enviorment and foods contribute to someone getting cancer. It was so facinating! I read this when I was first diagnosed, I really felt it helped me fight the cancer.

Chemotherapy and 'womanly cycle'
Hello all, I know this isn't everyone's favorite topic, but I am a little nervous about it. My last 'womanly cycle' ended nine days ago and I am just starting a new one. I have never been early or had any issues before, could this be a chemo. side effect? It is Friday night and it is not urgent to call the dr. so I was…

CT scan results + welcome to newcomers
I know the results could be worse, but I would like to see a perfect CT scan with no new growths (wishful thinking, eh?). I still don't know why have a spleen-like organ where I shouldn't have a spleen (since mine ruptured over 12 years ago and was removed) and I also don't the significance of a nodular on my liver…

Chemo port implanted today
Hi all. This morning I had the chemo port installed. I was not prepared for it to take so long...my fault for not finding out. But it's over now. I'm very tired and sore, but okay. It was a long day, and a long drive home [we're 2 hours from the hospital]. But now I can rest and have HubbyDearest wait on me for the whole…

Should we start a new post about radiation treatment questions and answers?
I have been noticing that some are done with rads, some are still in rads, and, some are getting ready to start. Would it be a good thing to start a separate thread just for rad questions and answers? Then, someone could ask a ? and anyone could answer. What do you think? Would it be helpful?????? ♥ Noel

This is for the Newbies to the site
I just wanted to say to the newbies here, that sometimes you get lost and not welcomed by all, if you just post in one of the threads. So, if you can and want to, start a new post or discussion thread and introduce yourself to us by telling us a little something about you. Then, we can all welcome you and get to know you.…

Legal Question
Hi All! I'm not sure if you can help with this, but learning how resourceful you all seem to be thought I'd give it a shot. It may have happened to someone else... I first found my lump back in May of '08. (Thanks to my dog) Didn't have any insurance, so I went to the Health Dept. They told me of the SBK Grant & sent me to…

Surgery went well
I had the DIEP flap surgery on Tuesday and all went well. The flap is 'taking' well and my pain level is very manageable. Narcotics make me sick so I'm just taking Tylenol thus far and that seems to be enough. They had a novacaine type pump in the abdominal incision so that has helped too. Unfurtunately it got caught on my…

mission accomplished/nipple tattooing
Just an update: after 5 (yes, five) appointments which were cancelled by the plastic surgeon, I finally got my nipple tattooing done today at the University of Chicago Medical Center! The doctor said that in a high percentage of cases the tattoo wears off a little bit and has to have a 'touch up,' and if it happens that…
