in Esophageal Cancer #1

I had my 5th year annual CT scan the other day and was immensely relieved that the results were NED!  Even though I was diagnosed at Stage I the scanxiety is the same now as it was 5 years ago.  We on this board know that some people have their surgery and treatments, as I did, and go on with their lives never to hear that aweful bad news again, but too many have long stretches with NED then have a recurrence.  None of us is immune from the possibility of a recurrence, so every year I have to sit down when I read the radiologist's report, at the same time fully prepared and totally unprepared for what it might say.  So I'm thankful again this year for so many things, today most of all for my clean scan.  God bless us all.

    It is wonderful to hear your good news Bob

    Thanks for posting your good news Bob!!! As you have said, one never can take for granted long term remission. It is encouraging for survivors just starting their journey to hear from folks like you who have completed treatment and are now back to enjoying life with the people they love.

    May there be MANY more clear scans!!

    By the way, after six years my oncologist said “You really don’t need to see me anymore”. So I no longer get scans, just an annual chest x-ray with my primary care physician. But, like you, as each yearly milestone goes by I am thankful for the gift of remission.

    Congratulations Bob,

    It's always great to hear about folks who have won against this SOB.  Scanxiety is a real thing, no matter how silly it feels when you are thinking logically.

    Congratulations

    Congrats, Bob! I received my esophageal cancer diagnosis 5 years ago next month. After going through chemo, radiation and the Ivor Lewis surgery, I'm doing great! Other than having to sleep on an adjustable bed and the occasional reflux attack, I'm living life just like I did prior to diagnosis. I know how lucky I am to have survived so well and I have a whole new appreciation for everything in my life - wife, kids, new grandson, etc.

    May you have many more years of NED reports!
