was wondering what peoples experiences have been with radiation.  I had mastectomy with clean borders no lymph involvement but doctor wants to give me 25 weeks on breast and 28 in axillary or armpit area.  What have been your experiences and results with radiation?  Thanks for all your input

    I had a lumpectomy, chemo,

I had a lumpectomy, chemo, and 30 rounds of radiation (6 weeks). I felt no side effects at all until 4 weeks into the treatment. Then I started to feel fatigued and my skin got darker at the sites.  Even though I moisterized like crazy, I developed radiation burns. My skin started to peel and I was in a lot of pain, but they treated it with A&D ointment. I had to wear bandages and a special tube top like thing that was supposed to act as a bra (I wore a spanx-like cami over it). So it was pretty bad for a couple of weeks. The last week, they focused the radiation on the surgical site only, so that helped and I healed pretty quickly. I couldn't wear a bra for about 3 weeks and now I have some dark spots that they say will eventually go away.  Small scars that don't even matter to me.

    Rads

Hi Sharie,  I had stage 2b IDC, no lymph nodes, no mets, no node involveent.  The stage was due to the large size of my tumor.  Also had clean borders.  The doctors all thought I had lymph node involvement as the nodes under my arm were swollen and hard  but the sentinel node biopsy came back negative for cancer.  My radiologist decided to target that area as well the the tumor site.  I was grateful for his treatment plan.  I had, unbelievably, no side effects from the radiation.  Having undergone chemo, bilateral prior to radiation..I wouldn't have noticed if I was more fatigued from rads and had no skin problems.  I used to go to the office right afte rads.  Down the road I had reconstruction and a hysterectomy as I was BRCA1+  Best of luck to you, you'll be fine!
