This is especially for the ladies. If you had hair loss near irradiated area, did it grow back once treatment stopped? Mine is coming out in clumps and it's freaking me out.

    Well, I'm not a lady and I

Well, I'm not a lady and I have lost all of my beard and moustache. They tell me it's temporary. All I can grow are sideburns so maybe I can bring them back in fashion.

    Hair loss

Hi Lisea.   Where exactly is the hair loss?  I have very short hair.  Cut it even shorter anticipating hair loss.  It did lose a bit during treatment as it was changing in texture.  My lower back hairline is gone but the rest is intact.  For awhile no hair growth but about 4 weeks I noticed some new hair (fuzz) on my back hairline.  It has also grown some in length by almost 2 month.  Even got a small trim to style it up.  Hang in there, it will come back.  Mine is even a bit thicker.  That's a good thing !  Hugs, Lisa

    Bald spot

my husband had a very noticeable bald spot where the radiation was most intense. It took a while after treatment ended but it grew back. He also lost his goatee and didn't have to shave - but the goatee is back now too. When his hair came back in it seemed finer, curlier, and greyer.

    Mine grew back... kind of

I lost a strip across the back of my neck and most of it grew back. I do still have a V shape though, on the back of my head, that four years later still never really grows hair. If you have long hair at all, the missing bits get covered up really easily. The only reason I even remembered I had the spot is because I lost my hair in recent chemo and it never grew back in that V. :-)

    Hair loss

can also be from chemo.  I had induction chemo and they used three different med and I lost just about all of my hair.  The good news, it all grew back except for the area around my neck and under the jaw line.  I have some coming back in along the back of my neck, on the point of my adams apple and on the right side of my neck near my collar bone (SSC, left base of tongue, stg iva, chemo, rads/chemo and 2 neck dissections).

Hair loss is likely temporary except for the point of greatest exposure - for me it was the left side of my neck.

I prefer to look at the positive, I can get ready for the day much quicker, shaving doesn't take very long at all.

Good to know that it will

Good to know that it will come back. I appreciate each and every experience that you all have shared. Without this site, I would be so much more frantic and worried. Thanks everyone.

    Mine definitely grew back...

Hair looks weird right now because I've got the summer updo with a thick tuft of 8 inches new hair at the bottom sticking out.  Take Biotin supplements, that will help, Lisa.  Hair today, gone tomorrow, back again!

    Hair

Biotin helps support hair and nail growth, and my doctors said it was safe to take. All the hair at the back of my head returned around six months after treatment ended. Someone got the orders mixed up though, because I got curly gray grandma hair instead. Eventually that grew out too, and my hair is back to normal. Like everything about recovery from this type of cancer, it just takes time!

    Biotin is great!

It helps your nails, too!  Mine fell out...a LOT with rads.  It got very thin and stringy.  Now it's wild and curly!  haha  I love it though, and it's easy to fix!
