Results from initial PET/CT scan coming in the next hour or so

in Uterine/Endometrial Cancer #1

Dear CSN friends, I am shaking in anticipation.  I had the initial PET scan this morning, which they actually downloaded onto a CD for me to take home.  Thinking I'm a semi-intelligent person, I thought I'd be able to make sense of the images and video but I just can't guess what I'm looking for.  Dark spots, white spots, bright neon green spots, it's all there.

The gyn-onc's physician's assistant is to call me with the results in the next hour or so.  I'm just praying it hasn't spread to many other areas.  I'm going to try to distract myself until the call comes in.  Please wish me luck!  The irony of April Fool's day!

    I guess they were just kidding.  PA just called to say they won't give me the results today.  It will be a long weekend of wondering/worrying while wearing a smile but I'll be looking forward to Monday's appt to discuss next steps.  Two more days.  Have a great weekend everyone!

    Initial Scanxiety

    I remember it well.  Keep yourself busy over the weekend.  If you have no plans, make some, the more activity the better.

    I was curious so I looked it up

    The bright spots might be hot spots of interest, however, not necessarily cancer.  Any recent injury of infection might also show hot.  The cancer on a pet scan is suppose to be brighter than other spots.  And the CT scan is sometimes used to determine where the spots that are on the pet scan are in relationship to body parts.  At least that's what I read from the internet.  Important though, is the sites say that reading pet scans is more than looking at spots, and trained techs use a number of things to determine if the spots "might" be cancer, although not necessarily all spots are cancer.  Generally, the brighter the spots, the more they are of interest.  Hope this helps, it really does sound like you need to let it go this weekend, and wait until your doctor discusses this with you.  It might be nothing to worry about.  I send you my prayers that this is the case.   Hugs Nancy
