It appears I am not the only one in my family.

I ran into my cousin Bill at the supermarket on thursday. He is my mothers brothers son. We never see much of each other mainly because of distance but we all usually keep to ourselves. Bill has had a very tough life , he spent many years in the Aust Airforce and served in Vietnam and Malaysia. During a regular medical check in Malaysia they noticed green flecks in his eyes. It turned out to be Wilsons disease. It is similar to hemachromitosis only instead of iron the body stores copper. He was invalided out of the airforce and it has only been through the efforts of specialists that he is still alive. When I saw him on Thursday he was wearing an eyepatch over his left eye.He has a tumour behind the eye. It has been taken out three times with a small piece of irradiated metal inserted behind the eye.He then mentioned that his daughter Sharron ,in her mid forties, had been treated for colon cancer. She then developed mets to the lungs and is currently at the stage where she is expected to be in hospice soon. We had always suspected that cancer may have been in my Fathers side of the family but it now appears it may be on Mums side. It was a very sad discussion as Sharron is divorved and has two teenage duaghters. Ron.

    Thats sad news, all around

Its always hard to hear of others hardships, and it sounds like your cousin has been run through the mill as well as his daughter.

Hope for a good outcome, though it sounds end game for his daughter, your second cousin.

I'm adopted, so no chance of finding out if anything runs in my background.

oh Ron that is way too much crap for your family.  Do you think a day is coming when this disease will be gone.  Maybe there will be genetic testing and then vaccines......something to prevent all this  suffering.

Ronnie it is -32 C here today.......the windows are frosted over and snow blowin like crazy.....wanna come over for a cuppa?

    best hugs, mags

So sorry to hear of this... This disease just needs to die. I read a sign not too long ago that said, "I wish cancer would just get cancer and die".  I agree... **HUGS**

I am so sick and tired of

I am so sick and tired of hearing about people with cancer. It's too much. There's got to be something they can do to battle it other than all these cures that just give us more chemicals and radiation in our bodies. It just breaks my heart. I'm not looking forward to going to radiation again and seeing the people waiting there. I found that the people waiting for their chemo appointments were more upbeat but the people that are waiting for radiation aren't. And sometimes they'd bring in someone in really bad shape and it would make me want to cry. And often I did cry. It was overwhelming.
