edited January 2016 in Breast Cancer #1

I am scheduled for my surgery on Thursday.  Friday night I began with an itchy rash on my back and breast.  Now it is spreading, and I fear it looks like shingles!  I know I need to see someone tomorrow ASAP, but who should I call - breast surgeon or primary?

i can't believe after waiting 12 weeks post neo-chemo and getting everything and everybody in place to help with recovery that I am in danger of a cancellation.  I already feared that if the chemo did not kill all of the cells that some may invade the pectoral muscle further.  Who knows - maybe it is all stress????

I am tempted to take Zyrtec for the itch, but I don't want that to be the cause of a delay.  Any advice???

Thanks,

Kathy

    Hi Kathy

I feel so bad for you!  If it is shingles, the primary can help you and please go right away. You can be given something to lessen the rash. I just talked with a friend yesterday, and she has shingles on her back and under her arm. Once you know what you're dealing with, the onco and others will have to reschedule. Please check in to let us know.  I hope it isn't shingles. Thinking of you, Linda

    Shingles confirmed

just confirmed - definitely shingles:(.  Surgery needs to be postponed - now looking at March.  So frustrated. . .    Of course, the rash is just where surgeon is going to cut, so I need to be especially careful as this process progresses.

    Bad timing

So sorry, Kathy!  That's the last thing you needed to hear.  Let's hope it goes away soon.  Big hug, Linda

so sorry but glad that it showed up now.

Would have been really miserable had it showed up the Friday after your surgery.  That could have interfered with your healing.  Now you will be rested and healthy for your surgery. (Trying to stay positive, as I am sure you are really bummed).

Hoping the worse of the shingles is over and your countdown begins again.

    Hugs,

    Carol
