in Head and Neck Cancer #1

6 radiation days done (1/5 done) and 2 chemo done (1/3 done) already. Seems like just yesterday that my husband started. So far he feels great, and he saw his radiation doc and oncologist yesterday who both said that he looks great too. So far no weight loss (still hanging in there at 205 lbs at 5'11") and blood counts all still within normal ranges. He is eating normally, still has a great appetite, and otherwise seems like nothing has really changed. Only side effects so far have been some heartburn last week and a little bit of hiccups, but nothing major. 

Taking it day by day, and so far so good. He is still working...3 days in the office (M, W, F), taking off on chemo days (Tuesday), and working from home on Thursday. He is at work today on Wednesday. I don't know how much longer we can keep that schedule up, but his boss is flexible, and the work has been good for him keeping him occupied.

It feels good to cross the days off on the calendar, and while we both know rougher days are ahead, it feels good to know he is doing so well so far. So we will take it.

Thanks so much for everything so far. This place has been a godsend for us. You give us hope that in the end we will make it through. Thank you.

    I am glad treatments are going well.  I met no serious challenges until week 3 and beyond (all manageable).

    Keep drinking lots of water and swallowing.

    Like Matt says...stay hydrated. Hopes for an uneventful remainder of treatment.

    Doing good.....

    Doing very good, hope he gets very little side effects. At times it can seem like you are riding the tail of a tornado. Just one day at a time, and cellabrate everything there is.

    That's awesome! Hopefully he will be able to tolerate treatment without anything out the ordinary. Ah yes, hiccups. My husband had those pretty bad after each chemo and they were hard to get rid of despite medications. But it sounds like your hubby will do just fine!

    Don't forget to take a break every now and then and do something fun if you can.

    So glad that nasty side effects have not reared their ugly head. I hope that is the case for the remaining weeks - it's time to get lucky with something, right?! I'm glad your husband is able to work - I think it helps to take your mind off the cancer and gives you a sense of empowerment in some way.

     

    For heartburn, we used Prilosec with our doctor's ok.
