I am now 4 years post treatment, chemo and radiation.  Yeah NED!

Two wo years ago I tried going to the gym and exercising... After about 10 minutes in a senior yoga class could not continue.  Sick to my stomach;  overheated; dizzy; etc.  no stamina.  absolutely could not exercise...

ok, fast forward two years.  Rejoined the gym and can now EXERCISE!  True, it's a senior classics class with a chair to use for balance if needed but I can hang in there for the most part...  Crunches, or anything that resembles that still causes intestinal problems....  But I am so much better!!!!  Yea!  ☺️

Congratulations on being 4 years post-treatment and NED!  That is so awesome!

I'm so glad you are able to exercise now.  I am a true believer in the power of exercise to help us get and stay healthy.  I feel so much better when I exercise on a regular basis.  I was on vacation a couple of weeks ago and no exercise made me feel like a slug.

As for crunches causing intestinal problems, I'm not sure what kind if problems you are referring to.  However, I have wondered sometimes if the crunches I do contribute to my occasional episodes of small bowel blockage.  The small intestines kind of "float" in the abdomen and it would make sense to me that any type of compression of the intestines could lead to them folding over themselves or sticking together, causing a blockage.  I have always done a lot of crunches and still do.  I guess I live on the edge.  Wink

I wish you continued good health and fitness!

    Congratulations!

That's awesome that you are 4 years NED!!! It's encouraging to hear that others are able to exercise. I was an avid exerciser for 25 years before my diagnosis. I got so tired during treatment I just couldn't do it. Now, I think I just need to start pushing myself to do it. I'm still very tired in the evening but could probably do mornings.

    Crunches...

Martha ..  Crunches or similar seems to irritate the chronic proctitis..  Cramping, pain and nausea....  Sometimes bloody stool the next day... I really don't know why, it just is!  Have substituted Pilates planks for core strength...  We will see!

Everything you say makes such good sense ... to me.  I'm going on two years NED in December for anal cancer and I've had issues with exercise.  Just a few months ago I was a regular at taking long walks 3-4 times a week and attending Tai Chi classes once a week.  I had to stop the Tai Chi because it aggravated my upper right sacram and right hip joint.  It was the beginning warm up postures that gave me discomfort.  This went on week after week, until I realized this wasn't fun or therapeutic anymore.  It hurt.

Now you are giving me a different kind of realization about the healing process of the body from threatment of cancer.  Healing is personal and it takes time to regain mobility.  Thank you so much for reminding me of that.
