Chest wall pain after BMX with no reconstruction

Hi all, I'm new here.  I'm 3 weeks post BMX, no reconstruction.  I've been having pain in my chest wall that feels similar to a the pain of a sunburn.  There's no aching, it's more of a burning, diffuse pain.  Has anyone else experienced this?  How long was it a problem for you?

Thanks for any input you can give me.

Dianna

    Chest pain

    Hi J-bird,

WHen I had my BMX last year I had that type of pain more so towards my left underarm for quite some time. It wrapped from my left breast area under my armpit and down in inside of my arm to my elbow. My chest wall took a long time to stop being sore. I would say at three months it started getting much better.  August 5th will be my one year BMX anniversary.  DO you get it all the time or when you move?

It's more when my clothes are

It's more when my clothes are rubbing against my chest.  I just spoke to someone in my surgeon's office and she said that it's common for this to happen when the swelling starts to go down and the nerves start regenerating.  It's not excruciating, just more of a nuisance.

Thanks for the reply, and happy almost-anniversary!

I'm also very happy that I

I'm also very happy that I didn't have reconstruction.  I haven't decided whether I will.  My sister is a personal trainer and she's developing a workout plan for me to build up my pects.  The contrast is quite startling - I was a 32G and now I have this tiny little bird chest, but I don't think I look weird.  I think people stared at me more before.

    Chest Wall

I don't know about you but my chest wall or pecks where quite sore and darkened for a while. It looked very dark and I thought they would stay that way. I am happy to say that I have zero discoloration now on my peck muscles. Getting used to washing my hands and seeing the muscles move reminds me of when weight lifters move their pecks to show off. lolol. I had to get used to that for sure. Your upper body , chest area will change over the next year in shape and color. My breasts now (I calls them breasts still because they still look like small breasts to me, I had the skin sparing BMX) look way better, the scars look way better. I did not have reconstruction. I'll do that later down the road. I am very happy I made that desicion because I developed a small lump in my chest that wasn't cancerous but was removed about a week after chemo was done and it got infection. That travelled to my scar area on right side breast and turned into three abcesses that had to get packed for 4 weeks. Had I had the reconstruction it could have gone horribly wrong.  They warned me about this and I'm SOOOOOOOOO thankful I listened! Others have had zero trouble with their reconstruction so it was a "me" thing but it was a THANK GOD moment. It could have seriously compromised my reconstruction tissue had I had reconstruction after mastectomy.

    Big breasts to Small ones

Goodness that would be a drastic changefor sure!  I LOVE my breast reduction. I miss my nipple area for the look of them and miss those sensations but the flip side is I LOVE not having the back ache and going braless. My left side is a tad bit smaller than my right but not by much at all. My left side was a  radical removal whereas the other side was a profalactic approach yet both were done with the skin sparing technique.  I actually thought about putting a couple little flower pasties on them to see how my mood would feel looking at my body :)  At this point I'm just rediscovering myself for what and who I am today. It can be a bit fun when I allow myself to feel joy again :)

I can wear shirts that I could never get away with before. I was always stared at no matter what I was wearing. It's not that that's a bad thing but it made me stand out from the crowd and I didn't always need to have that attention. I just wanted to wear cute sun dresses. When I would wear them though, it looked like I was just showing off the girls. To each there own :)
