Hey Ladies,

Does anyone know about making wigs? I have a friend just diagnosed. The onc told her she will have chemo, she is only 36. She has beautiful, long hair and wants to know if it is possible to cut her own hair to have a wig made for when she looses hers. Any help would be appreciated.

    OH YES!

    I have seen it on a DIY that a woman did the exact same thing.  Do a search for  DIY making human hair wigs.  And also she can get really cheap supplies from a china dealer in California.   I think the cap was only 6.00 and the postage was 2.50 so I'm guessing they are really out to help and not take cancer patients to the bank.

    I didn't go for wigs as I was

    I didn't go for wigs as I was getting one hot flash after another.  Even linen headcovers eventually were thrown off indoors, you get very warm and itchy.  In the house it was a wonderful relief to wear nothing.  I got some lovely headcovers on line, many styles and returnable if you don't like them, I wore these outdoors and amazingly got compliments.  The hair usually grows back really quickly by-the-way.  I had four treatments and iit was returning before the fourth, and came out just before the second.

    I bought a synthetic wig from TLC, and I hated it.  I got a lot of compliments on it.  I've always worn short hair so I chose a style very similar to the way I had always worn my hair.  It looked really good, but it would ride up, and was very uncomfortable.  I only wore it to church, and wore terry cloth turbans (Also purchased from TLC) around the house.  My head got cold without them, but sometimes I would have to change because I would sweat, and they got wet.  As soon as my hair started growing, and my head stopped getting cold, I quit wearing them.  I told my husband that I ever have to do chemo again, I will not wear a wig even to church.

    The American Cancer Society will provide free wigs ladies........... but I did not know that when I began my chemo so I went out and bought two very expensive wigs and lots of head scarves and wraps.       My two felt hats were the best because they kept my  head warm at night.......  I still have one of those wigs and keep it in reserve.... (just in case)...
