edited April 2015 in Breast Cancer #1

Wondering if any of you lovely ladies have had/heard of others having breast cancer in the opposite breast?

I had a left breast mastectomy 2 years ago, and a nightmare of surgeries trying to reconstruct that side...Now, I get hit with the possibility of this on my right side...I am scheduled for a mammogram and ultrasound on Monday (4/27) to check what my doctor felt today...I’ve had a chronic cough that the doctors can’t figure out...and, for about a week now I have had pain on the right side – it hurts every time I cough, sneeze or laugh - thus my visit to the doctor for the umpteenth time...I wasn’t expecting news about a lump on the breast.  Anyway, I’m sure it’s going to come back as a cyst or something…But, was just wondering if anybody had any news of cancer on the opposite side - and if it hits even harder than before...

Thank you for listening,

Andi :)

    Complicated as I think it

Complicated as I think it depends on many things.  Some don't take the chance and have bilateral and hopes it helps down the line.  But it can still come back else where, just takes one cell to escape.  I would talk in depth to your Cancer team.

You probably don't have my type, which frequently GOES TO OTHER BREAST, and had done so.  So bilateral for me.  Please note mine does not show up on yearly mamos, first sign was a cylinder lump, pre Cancer cells in the other side.  infilltrating Lobular.

    BMX

I had BMX last Jan. 2014. Cancer in right breast. Surgeon decided both had to be removed. When I had surgery pathology report showed I would have gotten cancer in left breast also sooner or later. There is a name for it but I cannot remember it. It is on my pathology report though. Hope your tests are all negative and pray that you have better days ahead.   Hugs and prayers,    Pixie

I thank you all for the notes

I thank you all for the notes to my post...my nerves are on edge as I'm waiting for tomorrow's tests...I had 2 large DC IS  lumps in my left  breast but my surgeon didn't feel it necessary to remove both breasts...now wishing I had insisted...

    Thanks again for your thoughts,

    Andi

Andi - shoot! My thoughts are with you today ...

My sister in law - several years ago,  had breast cancer in her right breast - 5 years to the date, breast cancer found in her left breast .  true story ...  however, I do not recall if the cancer in both breast were the same...  sorry - wish I could remember.

I have also ran across many Sisters in PINK - that cancer was found in opposite breast within 5 years.

Please post an update --  when possible, Andi.

    all clear -

Good News - the mammogram and ultrasound came back fine - possibly just a swollen node from having bronchitis a few weeks ago, and from the heavy coughing...If I still continue to have the pain and persistent cough next week when I see my oncologist, I will address it with him...

Thank you all for the kind words and support,

    Andi :)
