Removal of Small Growth - Surgery Tomrrow and Neck Question

in Head and Neck Cancer #1

Hi I posted a few days ago about the ENT guy saying I had a small what he called "wart" on my soft tissue.  I found the medical report and the technical term is "excision Of Pharyngeal Lesion"  The doctor said its not likely cancer as it is on the right side and my cancer was on the left side, although I did have an unknown primary.  He indicated it needed to come out sometime, but my wife and I have a trip planed so I said sooner rather than later.  Also I figured that since I already had cancer of the neck what does he mean "sometime"?  

I went for a pre op and the physician assistant was not as reassuring saying they have no idea what it is and that they could call me or ask me to come in when the get the biopsy results.  I assume they will call if its clean and have me come in if its bad news.  I was already a basket case and the PA sure did not help.  I know I am likely being hysterical for nothing, but I can't help it. I am trying to take the advice of all who answered my first posting about this and turn it over to God and to go with what the doctor said.

I had surgery, chemo and radiation for my cancer before and am three months over two years since my last radiation/chemo.  No sign of cancer in my three scans or doctors visits.  

I do ask for your prayers and thoughts, surgery is tomorrow morning.  

Also a question - do any of you have a tight feeling in your neck sometimes, sort of like you pulled a mussel there?  I get it on the opposite side of where I had surgery and most of my radiation.

    You will be in my prayers, too. I used to teach high school independent living classes and one topic we covered was HPV. It causes warts, so if you are HPV+, it would not be surprising if it is a wart. Let's think positively. Also, my neck tightens up at times. Were you given exercises? The one where you turn your head to the side,look up, hold for 5 seconds and then repeat on the other side, really loosens things up. I do a series of exercises every day and that one whenever it tightens. I hope it helps.

    Good point about HPV+.  No exercises but the one you cite sounds good I will try it, cool!

    You have every right to be nervous....

    it's a rare breed who doesn't get nervous....but I really don't think you need to go overboard....a PA isn't the Dr. (he's lacking a few years of school)....If the Dr. thought it was cancer, he would have pushed you to take care of it right away, instead of giving you the "sooner or later" option.  It's times like these that I really miss LongTermSurvivor.....he'd put your mind at ease because he'd have a better idea of what your Dr. is saying. 

    Also, you are past the 18 month to 2 year out of treatment where the great majority of recurrances happen....so take a deep breath and keep the "facts" close.  Your Dr. doesn't think it is, and you're out of the danger zone.

    You aré in my prayers.  Trust in the Lord with all of your heart. when i get scared I give this emotion to God and ask Him to give me His peace instead. He brought you this far. He won't leave you now.  Hope all goes well tomorrow. I'll be waiting to hear from you about the wart.

    Surgery Went Well

    The doctor seemed farily confident that the small tumor is not cancer.  Of course no promises until the biopsy comes back.  Not likely to get that result until Monday.  Will stil be sweathing some, but not nearly as bad.  When I say we got though this, I mean we, could not have done it without you guys, my wife and friends.  I meet weekly with two guys who had the same cancer and treatment and we have become very close friends.  Medical care is crtical, but I think that friends and support is almost as critical.  A pat on the back to all of you.  I will let you know as soon as I hear about the biopsy.

    Each minute is valuable and while I sure waste some even now, I do try to tottaly value each one.

    Positive thoughts

    Glad the surgery is behind you and the outcome looks positive. It would be unlikely that your doctor would go out on a limb with his prediction if he wasn't pretty confident.  Hoping you get a call before the weekend so you can take your worry hat off.

    I belive the outcome will be good and it won't be cancerous. I agree the medical team does mean a lot, but the recovery is up to the peson and they need a fighting attitude. I have seen it so many times with My Great aunt who broke her upper leg at 80 and they all said she will never walk again, WRONG. She not only walked she still drove a car untill she cuit at 86 and walked until she passed. They said my wife would be confined to a wheelchair because of fibrositis 25 years ago, Wrong she still walks one to two miles and rides a bike four miles a day. It's up to you what you are willing to try. You have the right outlook and will do fine.

    Many get tightness along the neck muscles as radiation often is directed at the lymph nodes in the neck. If you are getting tightness where no radiation was given, then it is proabably something else. Could be something as simple as the side you sleep on or the pillow you have or don't. Maybe you have a habit of leaning or putting pressure on those neck muscles. A physical therapist or massage may help. Good luck.

    Waiting Game

     

    The thing I hate the most is the waiting to hear back from the doctor; It is hard because we all want to know as soon as we can. But what I found in the waiting time is the opportunity of getting to know God better and believe me faith can move anything. Will be with you in prayer

    just wanted you to know i'm praying for a good report.  i'm glad the surgery is over and the wait is almost over.  that waiting is terrible........lol  its amazing how much people really care and how many friends we have gained.  its great to have people who truly understand/know what we live through.  i'm glad you have those two friends who truly know.
