Just diagnosed

I  was just diagnosed with infiltrating breast cancer & a benign tumor in the same breast. Tomorrow I'll be seeing the surgeon & 2-12 I'll be seeing the oncologist. The nurse said they will try to shrink the tumors before I have any surgery. I am worried because I have no one for support. I live with my daughter & grandson, but, she isn't real empathetic. She's worn out. I have been on disability for a couple years, I had 2 failed back fusions. So I don't work. My 2 sisters aren't really there for me & my friends live far. I've lived in Wisconsin for almost 10 years but haven't made any friends. My friends are still in IL but at least an hour away. I guess that's a worry because they say you need a support system & a good frame of mind. I already am on antidepressents because I have been depressed most of my life. I am on a lot of pain killers for my back too. Now this diagnosis, just what I needed. LOL.

    Extended support

is right here.  First you have to ask yourself if you want to go through chemo or have the surgery first and hopefully they get all of it and you won't have to do chemo or radiation.  There is a chat room you can use here and most of the time someone is there.  Some are late nighters and so someone normally is lurking in the middle of the night if you someone to talk to.  It's ok to ask for HELP.. is is really a friendly word and won't bite.  So ask and start reading the fourms you'll find some really nice people here.

    chemo first

    Louisa,

I don't know if you are triple-negative, but if you are, the typical protocol is to have chemo first to shrink the tumor, then have surgery.  I am TN and am on a TN support group board; most of us had chemo first.  Please trust your doctor to know what he/she is doing and why.  I am five years out from my diagnosis.

    Praying

I am so sorry that you are going through this. Its tough and I know that you are scared but you must try to stay postive. Do something you like to do everyday to destress. I am in Missouri and can chat anytime. I will be starting treatment too myself soon but we dont know where my cancer has origniated from. They say most likely the breast or lung but I have never smoked. I am praying for you and all on these boards that are survivng and fighting.

    From Wisconsin

Hi Louisa, I'm sorry to hear of your diagnosis. You've come to a great place for support, to ask questions and vent if needed. Have you contacted the American Cancer Society to see if there are any local support groups? Also Reach to Recovery might be helpful for you.

I work in Madison and live in Portage. Feel free to send me a private message. I'd be happy to talk with you too.

    Best wishes,

    Barb A

    Sorry to hear this dx
I live in Utah, most of my family and friends are in CA. I have my boys here and ex. All supportive. However, there is a lot that I dont wish to share with them so I found a local support group and it has really helped me out a lot. They understand how you feel as they are in the same boat.
his is a good site for support. Great group. Between all of us, not much we have not heard and we really are a great grouo of pink support.
    Hugs,

    HI

You answered my post & said you are in WI also. I live near Kenosha & Racine. By Union Grove. There are 2 support groups around here. I'm going to check them both out.
