Bloody Nose & spit blood-- after 2 yrs & 2 months - Normal?

Options

Just wondering if anyone has experienced a bloody nose and then spitting of a bit of blood so far after tx (2 yrs & 2 months out)?

Kreg had this happen today and little concerned. He doesn't see his ENT for next checkup until February. Last check up was November and all appeared normal with the scope.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

    Have no idea

Has he had a sinus problem in the last few days or a bad cought, or is it very dry and low humidity, where it might be just a blood vescle? If it is very dry that can cause a slite nose bleed.

I would do a sinus wash and use a netty pot to rince it out. I would also call the ENT just to let him know.

    Sinus......Yes!

Yes, he has had a little bit of a cold/sinus issue, slight cough over the last couple weeks. That was my first thought to relate it to. Possibly an artery from the original site that was damaged by rads and caused a rupture also crossed my mind. It's such tender tissue there now. His was base of tongue. But, it was quite a nose bleed for a few minutes though. Little scarey.

    Sinus is most likely

That is most likely, but i'm no doctor. I would do a sinus rince, netty pot or spray just to rince and lubracate the area. A small vescle might have broke some and you can get the blood. I'm a neck breather and I get a small amount of blood when I cough hard. It is a very small vescle that broke and it stops very quick, but it was scarry at first. It is usually bright red, but I have had Very dark red which means that is very low in my trach. The brighter the better.

I would still call the Dr and just let the nurse know to be safe. I don't think it will be anything to be concerned about.

    Thanks for the info...

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I will have him try the spray. I'm sure it has been dry from the cold and sinus medication he's been taking.

Since he had a sinus infection

and a cough recently, I wouldn't get concerned unless it continues (even then....our mucous membranes ain't the same as they were before treatment....everything is dryer).  I'd think the new dryness would make blood vessels more prone to burst.

    Radiation treatment...

    P~

You're right about the membranes being different. After the radiation I'm sure it is fragile back there. Trying to stay confident that it isn't anything to be too overly concerned about. It doesn't seem to bother him at all that it happened and I'm not going to draw to much attention to him with it. I just wanted to put this out there and see if anyone had experience with it or any advice. I agree that it has to be the sinus/alergy/cold thing he had going on. Keeping my faith there! Smile
