Hip Surgery Outcome

Thank you Winter for starting a new post.  Actually the surgery went very well.  It started at 10:00 and got done about 11:30.  The hospital was so full they did't have a room for me so therefore, no computer or internet.  By the time the room was ready it ws so late and being tired was "an understatment".  This morning the doctor called me and said that the nurses said that I've exceeded expectation of  surgery goals that soon so he said that I could go home this afternoon. Actually I wanted to stay another night but the more I thought about it the more home sounded pretty good because I'd not slept good the last 3 nights.  I've already done too much today and my hip seems swollen so I'm going to sit down and stay put until bedtime.  Thank you for all your prayers and thoughts.

Kim

So happy to hear from you. So happy to hear that you are doing well; but please do not hover extend yoursellf. It is definitely good to move about, but not to the point of Too much pain.

You continue to be in my prayers.

I wish that maybe they had let you stay in another couple of days. You have had a major, major operation and I really think you should have been monitored a while longer. Do whatever they say to do but please be careful. I remember my cancer op ,I was cut from sternum to groin. I was let out at ten days. Firet thing I learned was that there is no hand hook above my bed at home. Second thing I learned is that there are no park police who look out for idiots who go for a walk in the park the day after getting out of hospital. I sat in the middle of that park for an hour crying till I finally gathered enough courage to try to walk home. I made it ,only just but I learned very quickly what not to do. I hope you have someone at home or staying over for a while till you find your feet. Hugs Ron.

I'm so sorry you went through all that and probably the walk didn't really help you as I'm not sure how you even got out of the house.  Yes an extra day or two would not have hurt in the hospital but my rest last night was so peaceful and fell asleep at 8:30 instead of 1:00 a.m.  You seem to be one that doesn't let anything grow under your feet and you always are moving forward, and that is something I much admire about you.  My husband is here to help me because right now just getting to the potty is a chore.

    Hugs!  Kim

    Yeah, Kim!  So glad that

Yeah, Kim!  So glad that surgery went well and you can look forward to getting your active self back.

Sounds like they needed the bed. Not good....but you did benefit from a restful sleep and being home is healing in itself.

    Be gentle with yourself.

    Husband had both hips replaced

My husband had both hips replaced. Both hips were bad, one hip especially so. What helped him the most was doing all the exercises recommended. Keeping ice on the incision helped with swelling. One hip was replaced in 2012 the other in 2013. It has been over a year since the last hip was replaced. He is amazed by all the things he can do now. He is still Ned which is a real blessing. I hope this information will be helpful to you.

    take care

    Please take it easy!

Get lots of rest. I guess you will have PT soon?

I think they rush patients out too quickly, but from what I understand, with all the infections in hospitals, you're better off going home when you are able to. Stay healthy.
